to put my toddler in size 6 infant shoes when he has just been measured a 6.5?

So my 2 y/o ds has been wearing size 6 shoes for the past month,, he has some beautiful trainers and shoes which cost a fair bit of money, but I went to get his feet measured out of curiosity and she has said size 6.5...

Am I being unreasonable keeping him in his size 6 shoes for a while longer as they still fit him fine, I really don;t want to go out and spend a whole load of money just to go half a size up when I would rather wait until he is a 7..

Size vary so much so even if he is measured at a 6.5 some shoes come up big, others small, other spot on. Do his size 6 fit- room at the toe, not slip, no red marks etc when he wears them. If so keep him in them and just regularly check.

shock alert warning Children grow. Fast. If you spend a fair bit of money then complain that he has had the temerity to grow you are ridiculous. If you are intent on spending silly money on shoes you'd do better to buy a size 7 and stuff the ends with cotton wool...

No red marks at the moment, little bit of room at toe

Size 6 usually lasts until size 7. Size 6.5 to 7.5 etc

But some shoes vary in the way they fit, so some are wider at heel or across arch etc.

It depends on whether they do actually fit. Which is irrespective of the size. So long as they’re not restrictive and squashing his toes/feet.
My son was measured as an (adult) 5.5 for school shoes. The shoes that actually fitted him in the shop were a 6.5. His trainers are 5s with lots of room.
So the size doesn’t really mean much.

Ijustwanttoretire - wouldnt say ridiculous, just asking a question :)

If they fit, it's fine.
If you're forcing him to wear them because they were expensive, you're unreasonable.

Camomila · 05/09/2019 10:23

Not if they still fit, there's often variation between shops/styles anyway.

Most of DSs shoes are a 7, but his wellys are a 6 and still have wriggle room in the toes.

WaterSheep · 05/09/2019 10:25

Surely if the shoes fit you wouldn't have taken him to be measured? I think the cost of the shoes is clouding your view somewhat. Whilst it's annoying to feel like you've wasted money, if he needs new shoes then the cost shouldn't come into it.

IsobelRae23 · 05/09/2019 10:26

If they fit and his toes are not reaching the end, nor are they too narrow, and if they don’t pinch, then fine. If you are putting them on because you’ve spent so much money, and don’t care about the size, that’s wrong on every level.
They either fit or they don’t, and if they don’t he can end up having problems. Note for next time:- stop buying so many.

Depends on the shoe ... my little one is growing out of shoes so fast this year! We're doing our best to shop during the sales etc but still spending at least £40 every 6weeks, so I completely sympathise.

Throwing a silly question into the works, did you mention his current size when you were getting measured?
Some retailers have been known to pop up a half size, it’ll still fit just more toe room, so it’ll help get a sale. Based on the fact if you come in as a 6 you likely have size 6 shoes but if now dc’s feet have grown you're likely to go up a size and buy more shoes.. you tend to be thinking about buying shoes if your in a shoe shop logically.
Experienced it multiple times with dn’s including getting one measured days after her last ‘measuring’ checked inside the shoe for the size they were and text her DM while waiting.. I knew she got new shoes, didn’t know what one were new and wasn’t 100% of size so wanted to check obviously she didn’t answer immediately so I got the assistant to help in the mean time. I doubt her feet grew a half size over the weekend.
