To ask how Brexit will BENEFIT you/your job?

Off the back of the other thread, I wanted to see if anyone could share how Brexit will tangibly benefit them?

I'm shocked by how many people will be/have been so acutely affected but Leave is very strong, very popular so there must be a flip side?

I'll mention I voted Remain and would do so again, but I'm NOT after a debate/bun fight about it. Just simply flipping the question to try and understand further.

It won't. It'll make it very difficult, and may close the organisation completely, leaving a lot of people in a bad way. I have to be vague, but my workplace benefits many members of the public. Without EU funding, I expect to be jobless or on severely restricted hours, if the organisation survives at all.
I won't be rude on this thread, but I will suggest that people who say leaving will boost the economy, haven't thought it through thoroughly/are unaware of/don't care how many British businesses are receiving EU funding.

Peony99 · 05/09/2019 10:14

I work in political risk for financial companies, so I'm doing very well career-wise out of it.

I still think it's shit, though.

angemorange · 05/09/2019 10:16

I'm a public sector worker and maybe a bit more protected, but I'm seeing many of our funding streams going to come to an end which will have a huge impact on jobs that are funded by them.

Also my friend has just seen his own business fold already. He imported goods from Europe to sell here, but his suppliers have been asking for payment up front due to Brexit uncertainties and, although he struggled on for a year or so, he's just had to close it down. Additional tariffs would have killed it off too.

Another friend's son has been told by his employer (banking) that they are leaving the UK within two years so his job will end then unless he moves to a EU country.

All in all I don't see any positives.

angemorange · 05/09/2019 10:18

As an additional comment many Leave supporters seem to know that Brexit won't benefit them - many are small business owners - but they don't care. It seems like a 'feeling' is stronger for them rather than any tangible benefits.

Justanothernameonthepage · 05/09/2019 10:19

It won't. (Manufacturer that relies on raw material coming in from Europe that the UK cannot supply without spending millions, creating a worldwide product that requires licenses to ship).
But if the pound continues to weaken then as a low cost economy we might still retain the contracts....

WaggingKnife · 05/09/2019 10:20

It won’t.

WaterSheep · 05/09/2019 10:22

My job won't benefit, but this is blatant place marking to see the kind of jobs if any that will do so.

whitershadeofpale · 05/09/2019 10:26

I’m a business/ legal content specialist. It’s certainly giving me lots to write about!

PhannyPharts · 05/09/2019 10:26

I just hope I keep mine

Quellium · 05/09/2019 10:27

My job will be made a lot more difficult due to increasing costs and red tape. Literally nothing good will come about as a result of Brexit.

blowjobsbitontheside · 05/09/2019 10:29

Well apart from the toddler tantrums I have a great new address.
Confused? See my other thread

TheGlaikitRambler · 05/09/2019 10:33

It will benefit my job, but only because I work with people suffering food poverty and that is only going to get worse :(

TheGlaikitRambler · 05/09/2019 10:36

@blowjobsbitontheside I have no idea how your thread relates to this?

TheHumanSatsuma · 05/09/2019 10:36

I’m retired, living on savings. Plus, have family in Europe.
I suppose when they have to help me out that their Euros will buy more.
Mustn’t grumble.

TheGlaikitRambler · 05/09/2019 10:38

Oh ok, got it now. The "humour" completely bypassed me.

Bunglefromrainbow · 05/09/2019 10:41

I deal with lending to people, secured against their home. The area of this market that we deal in is likely to increase due to a combination of decreasing/stagnating house prices and increased cost of living/inflation.
As well as this we expect to see some lenders leave the space until things settle down giving us opportunity to take a larger share of the business.

smokeytoby · 05/09/2019 10:41

I work in a law firm and while my job has not directly benefited, the only other law firm in the town has just gone into administration due to the sudden decline in business from locals. They worked purely in conveyancing and no one is buying/selling like they used to due to the severe uncertainty of Brexit, and therefore the firm lost so much business that they had to close. Fortunately, my firm specialises in many different areas of law so we have been able to keep our head above the water, and should have all of the legal business in the town due to the closure of the other firm.....it's still very sad though.

ReasonablyIntelligent · 05/09/2019 12:15

I'm genuinely surprised there aren't more people posting with direct positives to their industry/lives.

I understand that the Mumsnet demographic is largely remain however

whitershadeofpale · 05/09/2019 12:19

What benefits to you think there are to people’s jobs @ReasonablyIntellegent ?

adaline · 05/09/2019 12:22

It won't benefit me at all.

Why do you think it will? Most people will be negatively impacted by Brexit at least in the short term.

Petrichor11 · 05/09/2019 12:25

Not at all. The only ones who will benefit are the super rich who can rise above it

HeronLanyon · 05/09/2019 12:26

It won’t.

Frequency · 05/09/2019 12:28

Well, when all the EU workers in our industry go home there'll be even more hours available for me, so that's a plus I guess. I mean, there's pretty much unlimited hours available now due to a chronic shortage of staff but maybe, once we'e even more short staffed, they'll stop insisting people take a day off every now and again.

TeamUnicorn · 05/09/2019 12:30

I don't think it will make much difference to my job.

countrygirl99 · 05/09/2019 12:32

It won't. Some IT projects have already been moved to other sites in the EU so there are no issues with specialist staff moving from 1 project to another.
