For years we've been hearing about no deal, which I understand, but what exactly do people want in 'the deal' when we exit the EU? Can anyone explain it in easy to understand points?

Whatever protects the Good Friday Agreement.

The problem is.. There really isn't a deal to be had.
NI quite rightly don't want a border between the UK. Mainland and them because they are part of the uk
The EU can't have free movement between the. UK and the eu

And NOONE wants a return to a hard land border because it basically means ripping up the good Friday agreement

If there was a solution to this we would be out by now

MerryChristmasHarry · 05/09/2019 07:41

The best one would be the one we've already got...

Bigearringsbigsmile · 05/09/2019 07:42

i want the deal we already have.

Everyone wants the magical unicorns deal they were promised (which, as it was never specified, means different things to different people). As others have said, the actuality is basically impossible because of NI and the Good Friday agreement, which very few people (and certainly no one on the Leave side) ever mentioned during the campaign. And it is unconscionable that that hard fought peace is put into jeopardy.

To keep the free movement of goods, services, capital and persons, and to stay in the single market and customs union.

To retain the EU's anti-tax avoidance laws.

I read a funny article that said there are three types of people.

  1. People who understand that Margaret Thatcher and John Major managed to get us the best possible deal with Europe back in the day (all the benefits, no Euro, rebate etc)
  1. People who pretend not to understand that because it doesn’t suit their own ends (that’s Rees Mogg and his chums)
  1. People who have no idea about any of the above.

Made me laugh, anyway....!

I want the deal we've got. The Tories and their austerity programme are what's wrong with our country, not the EU and immigration.

Tippety · 05/09/2019 07:49

If anything was possible...to stay in, but for every countrys sake get a grip of expenses, they're ridiculous.

yearinyearout · 05/09/2019 07:49

Happy with the one we already have, no other deal will be as good. Still avoiding watching the news and trying to pretend it's not happening tbh.

natalia

I think it’s probably spot on

Though there is probably room for another category between 2 and 3

AChickenCalledDaal · 05/09/2019 07:51

I though Theresa May's deal was about as good as it was possible to get.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 05/09/2019 07:52

I don't want brexit at all but if it has to happen we must protect the Good Friday Agreement.

WaterSheep · 05/09/2019 07:54

I would like the deal we already have. Although I understand that even if that were possible, the country has changed in the last 3 years. So even if we remain, life wouldn't go back to how it was before.

LellyMcKelly · 05/09/2019 07:57

The deal we’ve got is the best deal, though I’d have sucked up a Norway style deal for the sake of honouring the referendum result, and acknowledging the wafer thin margin of that result. That would at least have kept us in the single market and customs union, and we wouldn’t be having these discussions about NI and Ireland. I’m from NI and am old enough to remember the troubles. Anyone who thinks that a hard border won’t lead to an upsurge in terrorism needs their brains looked at. This WILL cost lives. The GFA must be protected at all costs.
