hanging up on the guy from AO after ordering a new washing machine from them?

Minutes after I placed the order at ao.com there was a phone call from a cheeky, argumentative fucker. It all started because he called my DH's phone asking for me by the wrong name (the online order form asks for a second contact number and I gave DH's assuming they would only use that if they couldn't get me on my number) what a pallavar I had, him asking why I gave that number if I didn't want him calling me on it and me trying to explain, it went on a lot longer than was necessary and his attitude was shocking.

So we finally get to confirming the order and delivery details, then the extended warranty sales pitch starts and I told him I didn't want it. Well, it was like arguing with my stroppy teenager, I said no a few times and eventually asked him to please just accept that I don't want it and told him I would have to hang up if he didn't .....he continued to badger me about it and I hung up!

Never in my life have I ever experienced a call like that, especially when I am buying something, makes me wonder what it would be like if something went wrong and I had to return it.

I'm wondering if I need to call back, I have a confirmation email though that I got before he called so I'm assuming the order is fine and the call is purely to sell the warranty.

WIBU hanging up?

If it's unclear what they're talking about you could complain about potential mis-selling as well

I just tell them I put the warranty money in my savings account and replace whatever breaks. he was fine with that.

CouscousEvaporator · 04/09/2019 20:36

@ValerianV they can’t take the money like that, but they were going to try until I pointed out that they didn’t have my permission! She acted like she had never heard of such a thing before and I was being really unreasonable.

Update

My new washing machine was delivered today and they had no instruction to take my old machine away so it's still sitting outside, looks like horrible phone guy has cancelled the free uplift he offered me as a carrot before the hard sell stick.

The delivery guys said I was the 4th person today (12pm) to experience this and apparently the company are so bad to work for that lots of the drivers are quitting.

I'm still so surprised with all of this, until now I would have recommended them to everyone.

I bought a Bosch food mixer from AO, it had more parts and bits than a NASA rocket so I rang to say I didn't want it, would they collect it, as per their t's and c's. The person I spoke to tried very hard to sell me something else, Would I like a kettle, a microwave???? Eventually I convinced them to just collect it.

Mrsjayy · 10/09/2019 18:52

That's awful DH pointed out a teeny tiny small print about the "free uplift" so he just dumped the dishwasher. But a washing machine is a heavy bugger for a car.

washing machine is a heavy bugger for a car
And DH pulled a muscle in his back yesterday.

Would I like a kettle, a microwave????

I think I'd have been laughing too much to reply to this.
