To ask you to come and tell me what it's like to work in an animation / entertainment team at a holiday resort

Because I'm nosey and fascinated! I'm halfway through a two week holiday at a "holiday village" resort in Europe. The entertainment is cheesy but my kids are loving it. I'm rather in awe of the reps that seem to be on duty morning till night every day (i know they do get days off) and are always smiley and upbeat. It must be such hard work. I can see that a couple of them aren't that comfortable with the entertaining kiddies aspect of it, they have amazing voices so clearly that's what they really want to be doing full time. But still, they're working bloody hard!
So come and tell me, is there time to have fun and see some of the place that you're "posted" too? Are there lots of divas / male equivalent of divas?is it worth it as I know the money is awful?
I'm not considering a career change, btw, I have no talents whatsoever!

Would love to know more too. I think you definitely have to be a certain type to do this job. I'm far too miserable.

I was a resort rep. It’s bloody hard work. It is a bit like Dirty Dancing, work hard play hard and it’s not all year round so whilst it’s hard work (July is a struggle, August lasts approx 3 years) it is just “your life” for half a year or so.
Resort reps had it worse I think, as people seek you out to complain, whilst the animation team get to do “happy” stuff

This is a bit outing but..
I worked on the ents team for a summer whilst on a break from college- doing the shows/teaching "tea dances" and line dances, calling bingo, dancing with the old people etc. My takeaways from the 3 months-

There was a lot of sex, people would go to the team bar, have a few drinks then go back to each other's chalets.

Ditto a lot of parties in the waiters' blocks, they worked split shifts and worked very hard.

The crew were very fond of the oldies who came regularly and gave them extra attention.

We would get a lot of "headline" comedians who were famous in the 70s, they often had big egos and cheesy acts! I cant think of any names atm so they were not really that big!

I summer interned at a large chain in a very specific public facing role but non entertainment/non service.

The entertainment crew worked 4 days of more often than not split shifts (I think it was something like 9am - 2pm then 9pm - 2am or they could do 7am-7pm or 6pm-2pm) and had 3 days off. They were all shagging, every single one of them! Lots of injuries, we saw more injuries from staff than guests.

It was like Freshers week with access to “free” booze.

Hmmm interesting. @Ribenaberriesgowoo82 the ones here don't get three days off. There are only 5 of them, and in the evening there's more often than not four of them around.
It's interesting hearing people say about free booze and lots of sex, when from where I'm looking at it, there'd be no time or energy gut either!

I have worked for holiday company in uk and abroad during summer and winter. Work hard play hard. Feel company doesn't look after you. High turn over of staff due to this. Too much out of hours drinking which is encouraged by the culture. Saying that did enjoy it. (The one abroad more so.)
