Prince Harry - AIBU?

Prince Harry saying "we can all do better" has really irked me- aibu?! He has every want and need satisfied while the majority of us and trying to do right by the environment whilst making ends meet. He is becoming very sanctimonious!

Good point @LaurieMarlow (great name btw, Antonia Forrest fan?), if his interest in HIV awareness comes from his mother then who's to say the interest in environmental causes hasn't come from his father?

TelAvivLastNight · 11/09/2019 10:07

And the private jet security claim is bullshit. A former royal protection officer has stated they far prefer to work with the likes of BA at Heathrow as they have established and well tested security teams and procedures and its much easier for the security team.

Far more celebs have perished on private jets and helicopters than on commercial airlines.

BertrandRussell · 11/09/2019 10:09

Charles has been talking about the environment for longer than I can remember. It seems illogical to assume that Harry’s interest comes from Meghan- it hasn’t been a particular cause of hers in the past.

TelAvivLastNight · 11/09/2019 10:15

They have clearly started to move away from some of their initial charity initiatives - to more glamorous ones though. This has coincided with the split of the charity foundation. They have retained the popular ones - and the ones with more global appeal. You don't really see Meghan down at the old peoples home anymore.

“They have clearly started to move away from some of their initial charity initiatives - to more glamorous ones though.”
Examples?

SamanthaBrique · 11/09/2019 10:26

@TelAviv, we haven't seen much of Meghan at anything lately, considering she's been on maternity leave for a few months! And she'd barely been a member of the RF for a year prior to that. Let's see what happens when she's back before rushing to judge.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 11/09/2019 10:34

I said I sounded snobbish. Acting requires certain skill for sure we all know great acting when we see it, and I do respect it. Never would I say it does not require skill. But I'm afraid I don't place being able to personify a character as requiring the same sort of intelligence one does in 'souless' work such as engineering etc. And the concept of multiple intelligences is hotly disputed.

Certainly you can be highly intelligent and do those jobs but it doesn't require you having excelled at school in any other sense to do well in it.

However it is very apparent that both M and K are intelligent.

I think people are a bit unfair about Kate's work ethic as she met William at university at a very young age where she hadn't even had the chance to build up her independence and work confidence yet. And she attracted a ton of media attention and thinking back to how I was at that age it must be intimidating. What profession could she really have done without the press following her 24/7? She was a buyer for fashion chain for a while but I read they would receive intrusive phonecalls enquiring about her even there. She did work in her parents business for a while (yes I know, but still).

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 11/09/2019 10:38

I’m disabled & have a blue badge - I went to visit Buckingham Palace & so was allowed to drive into the palace. The amount of people videoing & taking photos of us was astounding. If Kate (as a girlfriend) had to put up with a fraction of the amount of intrusion we felt I’m not surprised she found it hard to work. We all felt that we would never want to be royal. It was awful.

LaurieMarlow · 11/09/2019 10:40

I think this is utter bollocks myself.

And there quite clearly are many different types of intelligence, how could you dispute that? Confused

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 11/09/2019 10:45

I have to 2 dcs. One is super bright academically A*s at GCSEs & Alevels. The younger dc other a mix of 5/6/7. The younger dc is super bright when you talk to them, with a depth of general knowledge & political awareness that’s quite outstanding. This is said by their teachers btw - but it doesn’t translate into exam success. It could be similar for the royals.

My judgement of whether someone is intelligent (or at least curious) tends to rely on whether they are readers. I've no idea whether the Royals are, but I've never seen any evidence of it. Anyone know if they have an Amazon Prime account, and what they read?

Dongdingdong · 11/09/2019 10:51

Kate and Pippa used to be pretty famous for asking paps for copies of photos for their scrapbooks

Really? I've never heard that. If it's true (which I highly doubt) then it's utterly bizarre!

TelAvivLastNight · 11/09/2019 10:52

The new charities being the clothing range for Smartworks- I predict a runway show at London and New York fashion week there. This Traveldisasters launch - photos cleaning some exotic coral attol, re-pointing the Great Wall of China etc

TelAvivLastNight · 11/09/2019 10:56

Meghan will no doubt partner with some Celeb chef to launch a vegan only airline food range all sourced from the Duchy of Cornwall

BertrandRussell · 11/09/2019 10:58

She’s been working with Smartworks for a year. Don’t be silly.

SamanthaBrique · 11/09/2019 11:02

The capsule collection for Smart Works is being launched tomorrow but I highly doubt a runway show in London and New York fashion weeks is on the cards. It's a small collection of practical clothes for women who are trying to get back into work. Not exactly high fashion!

BertrandRussell · 11/09/2019 11:04

@TelAvivLastNight is just being ridiculous.

TelAvivLastNight · 11/09/2019 11:12

@BertrandRussell six private jets within several weeks level of ridiculous?

The information is out there for all to see. What is ridiculous is that anyone would try to deny it. What a waste of effort.

SamanthaBrique · 11/09/2019 11:19

Oh come on @TelAvivLastNight, it's clear @BertrandRussell was referring to your other comments, not the ones about private jets.

NoTheresa · 11/09/2019 11:20

re-pointing the Great Wall of China etc

Oh come on, now! Talk sense. That would be far too easy.

LaurieMarlow · 11/09/2019 11:20

The six private jets, while unfortunate in their proximity to each other, isn't exactly unusual royal behaviour. Though some of the others prefer excessive private helicopter use.

There's nothing concrete that people can point to to prove their feeling that Meghan is behaving badly (by Royal standards)

Radio silence on what they've done that's worse than the Fake Sheikh (apart from 'loads', which is helpful).

Lots of baseless conjecture and downright lies.

It's interesting.

SamanthaBrique · 11/09/2019 11:20

The private jet comments are fair enough, although it's now jumped from 4 to 6?
