Prince Harry saying "we can all do better" has really irked me- aibu?! He has every want and need satisfied while the majority of us and trying to do right by the environment whilst making ends meet. He is becoming very sanctimonious!

I very much doubt whether that entity, “the Clooneys”, would have anything at all to do with Meghan Markle, the D lister, until she got engaged to a British prince.

NoTheresa · 08/09/2019 16:35

These people are so transparent.

NoTheresa · 08/09/2019 16:35

...would have had

NoTheresa · 08/09/2019 16:36

Harkle?! 🤣

It's pretty obvious that Travelyst (what a stupid name!) is good old fashioned corporate greenwashing, aimed at providing good press for hard-nosed corporations which profit from people travelling as much and as often as possible

After spending 20 minutes on the site I couldn't have put it better myself, and concerning Sconesat4's excellent post about who exists to rein them all in, it appears the answer is "nobody" - not that the Queen ever did much reining-in, if her family's embarrassing behaviour's anything to go by

Still, as a republican I really shouldn't complain if they go right on trashing any justification for their existence ...

BertrandRussell · 08/09/2019 17:10

Well, Travelyst looks like a load of bollocks.....

IcedPurple · 08/09/2019 17:17

It's a bit like Smirnoff and Beefeeter getting together to launch a 'drink sensibly' and hiring a famously heavy-drinking celebrity - or even prince - to front it for them. For a consideration, of course.

Taxpayer funded public servants should not be anywhere an initiative of this nature. Their role is to serve HM and represent Britain, not facilitate corporate greenwashing.

BertrandRussell · 08/09/2019 17:23

After his recent press, the Travelyst corporates must be thinking they’ve picked the wrong Royal!

IcedPurple · 08/09/2019 17:27

Oh, they've got the right 'royal'.

BertrandRussell · 08/09/2019 17:31

Not in terms of PR they haven’t. Which is presumably what they want him for.

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 08/09/2019 17:36

I think 4 months is too young to leave a baby

You missed the end of that sentence which is "... to fly to the otherside of the world to watch a sports match".

It's not so much leaving a 4 month old - which is a personal choice - plenty of women are back at work by then. Of itself its not particularly note worthy. It's more leaving a 4 month old to go SO far for something you could watch at home on the TV when you are on maternity leave. Its a very odd decision. It becomes more odd when you factor in the criticism they've had about carbon footprints and flights and their environmental evangelism. It's a bad decision to go - hugely unnecessary flying.

When Serena wins her next grand slam it will be BIG news with a lot of media coverage because she is currently at 23 so getting 24 will put her level with all time record & it will be her first win since her maternity leave.

What are the odds that MM made the decision to go because she thought Serena would win (which was expected based on how she'd been playing and her opponent) and MM would be there for major press coverage?

IcedPurple · 08/09/2019 17:37

I don't think any other 'royal' would be thick enough to get so publically involved in an initiative which leaves them wide open to well-founded (the increasingly desperate deflection attempts aside) accussations of hypocricisy and shenanigans, nor one who is so determined to aggrandise his and his wife's profile outside of the royal family to the extent of hiring a heavy-duty American PR firm to represent them. The SussexRoyal Instagram is constantly plugging for profit companies, few of them British. I don't know any other 'royal' who does that.

TeaLibrary · 08/09/2019 17:37

I am equally as disgusted by the rest of the royal family as I am with the dim witted spare and his vacuous wife. I think once the queen goes that should be it. No more nonsense about bowing and curtsying or expecting the taxpayers to fund their privileged pampered existences. The row has blown up and focused particularly on Harry and his wife because they had the unmitigated gall to try and lecture the rest of us about climate change whilst swanning around on private jets. If that hypocritical waste of space and Megan Antoinette want to push off to America and become private citizens that's fine by me as long as they understand that the British taxpayers wont be picking up their bills anymore or paying for their bodyguards. They simply cannot act like they are private citizens and bleat about "privacy" and yet still expect to be paid for by the taxpayer.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/09/2019 17:53

Do you think calling Harry a "dim witted spare" is helpful? I'm all for calling him out for some of the dafter things he's said and done but his intellectual capacity isn't the issue here is it? Plenty of people aren't very academic, it's not something they can help. It'd be nice to stay away from name calling and concentrate on what can be changed.

BertrandRussell · 08/09/2019 18:05

“It's more leaving a 4 month old to go SO far for something you could watch at home on the TV when you are on maternity leave. Its a very odd decision.” Now that really is a very silly thing to say indeed. Of course women are allowed to go away for the weekend for any reason leaving a baby with it’s father and it’s nanny!

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 08/09/2019 18:13

Totally disagree this is silly. .

Four months old is also very young so it is quite an odd choice for someone who doesn't need to leave the child (to go back to work or for something seriously important) to choose to do that. The first few months are particularly vulnerable. Under 6 months is the high risk period for SID.

it is also not silly when when you are an environmental preacher under scrutiny for your carbon footprint.

scaryteacher · 08/09/2019 18:14

Iced The Danish crown prince has 4 kids, and Derxa what is FOO?

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 08/09/2019 18:14

And I didn't say "not allowed", I said "it's an odd decision" which is not silly and I stand by.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/09/2019 18:18

And I agree with you, @TellItLikeItReallyIs.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/09/2019 18:19

scaryteacher I took it as "family of origin", but could be wrong of course ...

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 08/09/2019 18:37

When Charles dies William will be in the unenviable position of having to police his own brother. Much like the Queen and Margaret. We know how that ended.

Yes it definitely didn't go well! I think Charles would have to rise to the occasion and prove his worth as King. Many people privately prefer the throne to go immediately to William which cannot happen, but regardless, once the Queen dies the Monarchy will be on shaky ground, and will not be able to afford scandals of any serious magnitude, so reigning them in would be necessary.

It is possible that H perhaps wants to step away from his royal status and is just waiting for the Queen to go and all this groundwork is being laid with a view to the future. Just a thought.

IcedPurple · 08/09/2019 18:43

It is possible that H perhaps wants to step away from his royal status

Possible but unlikely imo.

I'd say it's much more likely that Haz wants to continue as he's doing now - enjoying all the perks, privileges and prestige of his royal status, with few of the drawbacks and limitations.

In the unlikely event he ever did give up his royal status, my guess is he would soon come to bitterly regret it. He simply has no idea what life is like in the real world, even the 'real world' inhabited by pampered celebrities.

Sconesat4 · 08/09/2019 18:54

I'm afraid this thought crossed my mind too, uncharitable though it might seem.
