I was absent from work for 4 weeks with gallbladder trouble, I went back to work while waiting on a date for the operation to get it removed. I worked for 2 weeks and then went off again for another to weeks to have the operation and recover.

I think work have messed my wages up but I’m not sure. Their responses are as clear as mud unfortunately.

We have two sick policies at work - short term sick policy and long term sick policy.

Our HR Team (who aren’t based in the UK, where I am based) are saying that the first four weeks is being managed in line with the long term policy and the last two week weeks is being managed with the short term policy.

I was under the impression that this is incorrect. As all of the absence was for the same reason that it’s classed as one period and should be all managed under the long term policy?

AIBU to think that? I studied HR many years ago but as I no longer work in that field I’m not up to date with legislation unfortunately.

I know when a friend injured her shoulder had time off then a few month later had surgery to repair the tear the two seperate time periods were counted as one rather than two episodes (which matches what you think should happen)

I think this is a related illness, under the the government requirements to pay SSP.
