Hiya , was advised to come here and ask the wise women of mumsnet for help as everything is in place for the business but a name . (Haven’t got the mumsnet app so found it hard to pick the right category , feel free to move it admin if you can)

I will be making and selling ocean related decorated home items , like mirrors/ lamps and other bits -using shells and driftwood.

For the life of me can’t settle in a name

Thanks for any replies x

I saw a boat the other day named the Salty Seaman. I'm guessing that's probably not what you're going for though!

High tide.
Ebb and flow.
Beach dream.
Seaweed and sand.
Drift and dream.

LILO
CARAVANNA
URCHIN

I think you can have ‘Salty’ but it’s how it is designed that makes the difference:

S A L T Y

s a l t y

I don’t think a typewriter font/typeface works with that name. I am from the Art Direction field so that is why I am saying that. A good graphic designer can make salty look good for you and work, as long as you are open to other type/font treatments.

Scorpiosista · 02/09/2019 22:31

Yes I suppose I could have Salty on its own or think of something the letters could stand for . Do you have any font suggestions ? 🤩

Salty can also mean bitter, upset, miserable etc. Just putting it out there.

Agree a one word name is punchy though.

Scorpiosista · 02/09/2019 22:36

Yeah I kinda like that tho x

I worked for a company that had professional advisors for a name change re-brand.

I went to some of the meetings they had - I remember in a very early one we were advised to make lists of what the business actually did and what it wanted to convey to its customers about its business and its ethos.

So for example if it was a cab company, the first list would be about driving people, cabs, cars and so on and the second list would be about stuff like reliable, trained drivers, clean cars and so on.

Try doing that OP - they said to us that the second list is more important in underpining what you choose as a brand name. Your name needs to convey your ethos.

so if yours is about recycling and environment start with that or if its about fine art, start with that.

My faves are The Beachcomber and Sea Witch

SallyWD · 02/09/2019 22:37

I like Driftwood - to me it evokes a natural and dreamy image.

There are literally hundreds of different options out there, but what you need is a typeface/font which is 100% free to be used commercially within the public domain in order for you to be able to use it without paying or being sued for using something you haven’t got permission for.

Currently, it’s pretty fashionable for the letters of words to be quite widely kerned (spaced apart). It’s also pretty fashionable right now to use fairly tall thin and sans serif fonts/typefaces.

However, it does depend on what your products look like as to matching the look of your name/logo with your range.
