Edinburgh. I'm sitting in bed listening to a mouse scurrying around underneath. They'll be wanting to nest inside, now that the weather's turning colder. And I also have the horror of hearing them inside the walls.
All very normal here in the New Town.

What are your bugbears where you live?

Too many people vote Tory.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 02/09/2019 23:04

Sorry @mouse but the main road is NOT being made better. It's being turned into a traffic nightmare, it takes ten times as long to get through the town centre, people who are unfamiliar with the roads are going to be confused, and if Morrisons survives the impact on their trade it will be a miracle.
Seaton is lovely in the day time, and away from the back alleys.
The two Aldis we already have are threatened by the new one which is planned for about 50 yards from one of the existing ones, but on the other side of a dual carriageway so access will be tricky by car and death defying on foot. Oh, and there's no parking space on that side.
I actually came to say we made the New York Times today...

This is where I live, my house is just a few yards away from the shop in the picture.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 02/09/2019 23:07

And the Naval museum is lovely if you can afford to get in.

Mrsmummy90 · 02/09/2019 23:10

@helpmeiamatoad
I heard something like this happened in my village. That mad woman with the 9 acres?

Mrsmummy90 · 02/09/2019 23:12

I live in a beach town so as soon as the sun is out, people travel from all over and getting about becomes so difficult. The roads are packed and there are people everywhere! Parking in the local supermarket it completely out of the question in summer as you'll be waiting forever for a space.

mnahmnah · 02/09/2019 23:14

Big tourist walking tours, blocking whole paths and taking pictures of the most random things

wigglybeezer · 02/09/2019 23:18

@Al203 neither, I'm in Scotland. Sometimes I regret moving here though it is safe and lovely, my kids don't feel comfortable walking about because they have sometimes been jeered at by the private school pupils.

IdblowJonSnow · 02/09/2019 23:19

It's a great place to live but too big for me!
There is a real divide between certain areas, guess nearly everywhere has this though.
There is a strong regional accent and as mine is more neutral I'm often perceived as posh or snooty - I'm not either!

sweetkitty · 02/09/2019 23:22

Litter
Graffiti
Fly tipping
Dog poo
Drugs and alcohol problems
While Rangers/Celtic thing starts young with the segregated schools
Whole underclass of unemployed working poor who just don’t care about where they live

purplepoop · 02/09/2019 23:25

I live 20 miles from any town. Gladly. Its empty apart from lots of charity shops, few pubs, cafes and a castle. Tourists love the castle but other wise it’s grim.

Glad to be stuck in the mountains where many don’t want to be. Suits me. Much quieter and the tourists walking mountains in their flip flops have gone home.

Aberhonddu · 02/09/2019 23:39

@Skyejuly no not Hythe.

StoneofDestiny · 03/09/2019 00:43

Wow - never realised how many people across the UK and Ireland disliked where they lived. 😳. Seems problems are in rural and urban areas, rich and poor areas, north/south/east and west!

Surprising how few people actually mentioned their town, village or cities names. Must be a loyalty there regardless.

Aberhonddu · 03/09/2019 00:57

StoneofDestiny
My user name is the name of the town I live in, but you'd have to understand Welsh to know which town I live in

pamperramper · 03/09/2019 01:03

Brecon then. Lovely place.

SteelRiver · 03/09/2019 01:05

The sectarianism. It's shocking.

AMidsummersNightsNightmare · 03/09/2019 01:08

Drugs are rife

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/09/2019 01:10

Live on edge of London. Only thing that we have against it is the prices. When you have £10million+ for a flat and it isn’t even that nice.

When we come to move we are going to go either further in or a different part somewhere within the M25

We live near a Home Counties town and it is just boring

lorettalemon · 03/09/2019 01:18

London - I don't like it really and won't stay longer. I'm not keen on the crowds, how busy it always is, how long it takes to get anywhere, the rents are so high people with normal jobs can't live anywhere very nice, the supermarkets in my area are always half empty like people have been stocking up for the apocalypse and never have any good reductions, the crime rates, nice areas are never far from somewhere that doesn't feel safe at night, the lack of trees and fields, city workers barging past like they're very important. I'm looking forward to moving back to my home village next month!

flyingspaghettimonster · 03/09/2019 02:29

Almost everything. The filth in the streets, the potholes that could swallow a bus, the gunshots all the time and the constant crime, the crack house on the corner of my block with drugged out zombies all tines of the day and night. The shouting and screaming. Fireworks being set off under cars. Poverty everywhere. Smokers everywhere. Having to walk past hookers fighting over teritory to go to the chinese take away. The roaches everywhere and the mice everywhere. Mosquitoes all summer then spending a fortune on heating all winter. No central air con despite the temperature frequently being over 100. The extra tax just for the privilege of working in the city. Sugar tax. No parking.

Can't wait to move to a nicer part of the country.

HerRoyalNotness · 03/09/2019 02:38

Heat, humidity, concrete, guns

Jesaminecollins · 03/09/2019 02:51

I have lived in my town for over 30 years and recently some of the farmers land has been sold off to build new homes. This means there are roadworks everywhere - they have even shut one of our roundabouts for 2 months so whenever I go out I have to make a huge detour and I am stopped by various temporary traffic lights. I am dreading when the building work is finished and all the houses are occupied because the traffic will much busier than it was before. I used to love living in a semi rural location but because a lot of people cannot afford decent housing in major cities they are now buying houses an hour away and commuting either by train or car. My husband does the same now but when we first moved here his job was only 20 minutes away which was easy for him instead of travelling for over an hour on 2 motors - this is ok unless their is an accident and the police shut one of the motorways and then he can be delayed for hours.

Jesaminecollins · 03/09/2019 02:52

traveling for an hour on 2 motorways

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 03/09/2019 03:46

Blimey flyingspaghettimonster that sounds dreadful!

Jakkipu · 03/09/2019 03:50

You in bmth?

Jesaminecollins · 03/09/2019 04:12

@Jakkipu

It sounds more like an american town to me but I might be wrong.
