To be utterly fed up with the “bitty” reference

My babies 8 month old, in no way is she a grown ass woman asking for boob. If one more person goes oh much longer she’ll be asking for bitty I’m going to scream.

I was planning on breastfeeding till a year but I think I’ll do two just outta spite. Benefits the LO and I can rub my feeding up their wrong side for longer.

That show was ages ago. I can't believe people still refer to bitty.

HumphreyCobblers · 01/09/2019 14:27

That show was so misogynist in tone. I didn't have the language to express my revulsion at the time, but I remember saying to my husband that is was just woman hating. I remember the old woman in it too.

OP just tell those people to fuck off with their revolting comments. I fed my children till they could talk but not one person said such a vile thing to me, I think you have been very unlucky.

OtraCosaMariposa · 01/09/2019 14:31

It's a horrible phrase. I hated the Little britain show, it wasn't funny and yes it was mainly about two blokes poking fun at women.

We have some seriously fucked up ideas about breastfeeding in this country.

I fed my youngest until he was almost 2 and most people - including my own mother - appeared fairly repulsed by him still having a morning feed at that age.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 01/09/2019 14:34

I'd be feeling violent towards whoever made that comment as well OP

The WHO recommends at least years, for some reason in the UK people think 'the rule' is 6 months and then it becomes disgusting as soon as they are over 6 months / can eat solids/ say a word / have a tooth - whichever comes first. Its bizarre. Milk is the main form of nutrition til 1 and then still a major part of the diet when they're toddlers.
Of course the people who make the bitty comments wont care about any of that given they have no common sense

Wonderland18 · 01/09/2019 14:35

It’s my mum and MIL, both formula fed and think BF is something that should be private, MIL shoved a blanket over me as I breastfed beside her hospital bed a few weeks ago, I just up and left.

I think my mum just thinks she’s funny no matter how much I call it rude🙄

OP posts:
NoSauce · 01/09/2019 14:36

They are both ridiculous. 8 months is still young and as for MIL shoving a blanket over you Shock

Just honestly ignore them. They’re being stupid.

Sexnotgender · 01/09/2019 14:38

Fucking hell its your mumConfused

3dogs2cats · 01/09/2019 14:42

You have done so well to give your baby the best start despite that kind of sabotage from the people who should be supporting you.

duffyluth · 01/09/2019 14:53

I was going to say you need to choose your friends more carefully. But your own fucking MUM Shock

I'm sorry OP.

Troels · 01/09/2019 15:05

Whst horrible relatives.
Tell them you'll be finished breastfeeding by the time he goes to Uni, and if she goes on about it anymore you won't bother seeing her till she grows up and stops being so nasty.

Wonderland18 · 01/09/2019 15:08

I get it off DP’s older family a lot, breastfeeding was never the done thing with them but I shrug that shit off.

It’s bad when it’s my brother who gives my mum a hard time for it though he has two healthy kids who were breast fed till 3 and lots of respect for it.

Riv · 01/09/2019 15:19

Not so sure it can be considered a problem of the older generation as a whole I fed each of mine for two years back in the late 80s early 90 without any comments. It was considered the norm then and bottle feeding was considered copping out and slightly shameful. I was one of the last of my friends to have children. They all BF for about the same if not longer than I did. It was supported

LaurieMarlow · 01/09/2019 15:19

It’s fucking appalling. The LB crew should be hung out to dry for the damage they’ve done and continue to do to bfing attitudes in this country. Dicks.

OP I’d be tempted to lose it so thoroughly she never dares mention it again.

Buddytheelf85 · 01/09/2019 15:21

She’d be a pretty advanced 8 month old if she were managing to ‘ask’ for bitty. How ridiculous. I might understand their point if she was 18 and heading off to uni but she’s teeny.

LatteLove · 01/09/2019 15:23

Riv · 01/09/2019 15:27

Sorry fat fingers posted too soon.
BF was actively encouraged by my parents generation as well as my own. Bottle feeding was considered fiddly and nutritionally inferior and only to be used as a last resort. Women who fed for less than a year were considered failures. (This was not my own opinion, just the general zeitgeist)

I think that you should feed your lo as long as you both want and are comfortable. It’s that dreadful program that has encouraged the creepy attitude and your critics should be ashamed of themselves.

Wonderland18 · 01/09/2019 15:42

@Riv not the older generation at all! Just his older family members. They were all breastfeed until you left the hospital the stick a bottle in the babies mouth. Same people give me hell as LO won’t take a dummy. I assume it’s more so their parenting style but definitely not my style at all

ElizaPancakes · 01/09/2019 15:45

This is where you give them the Confused look and say she’s a baby. That’s it. Don’t engage past that.

Howlovely · 01/09/2019 22:06

Good grief what on earth is wrong with these women?! Don't they know that's what boobs are for? You must have the patience of a saint to have not told them to bugger the fuck off by now. Unfortunately, it might take a big blow-out to stop them from doing it though.

Siameasy · 01/09/2019 22:28

These type of people are so tiresome
First of all I like to point out that they enjoy expressed breast milk from a cow
Secondly I heard a lot of the “they don’t need it”..so my response was “you don’t need tea coffee chocolate etc so why do you consume it?”
Thirdly they’ve sexualised the breast..a bit creepy of them in that context
