To ask MN to suspend AIBU temporarily...

...so that posters have to look for the vaguely correct section to post in?

Yes, I get the "posting for traffic" mentality and it is occasionally relevant when someone has a bona fide emergency, but fucking hell.

Yes, yes you are being massively unreasonable to ask if your shoes go with your dress when there is a perfectly adequate style and beauty section which I have hidden as it doesn't interest me

Yes, yes you are being totally unreasonable to ask for travel tips to (insert destination here) when there is a very straightforward travel section, which may even have the answer to your question if you could be bothered to look Lots of MNers have been to California/New York/Berlin/Centre Parcs/Efteling and have posted extremely useful advice about them.

I could probably go on, but it has definitely been getting worse lately.

While I'm at it, maybe there could also be a new "sticky" section with the answer to questions which come up with depressing regularity re sheet/towel washing, what present to buy for some random relative that nobody knows or how much to give in a wedding card?

Genuinely interested to hear opinions on this, and if anyone is horrid I will just add the disclaimer that I was tired when I posted.

I'd like to see a tool whereby anyone who posts a thread about a subject that's been done to death they are automatically sent a link to all previous threads as there is nothing new that can be said on the subject

Yes to this.

Sad Sad Sad to not getting a vote button

I’d quite Mumsnet to suspend the whole site for a couple of hours a day so I can get some housework done.
I have zero self control.

Bluntness100 · 31/08/2019 15:13

I think you're really over thinking this. Really who gives a shit where people post.

noroominthefridge · 31/08/2019 15:13

Also perhaps a "Can't be arsed to Google" section?

OP posts:
lawnmowingsucks · 31/08/2019 15:16

I debated long and hard about where to post

How about the above is true of all those posters who you're currently judging on this thread? HmmGrin

GrimalkinsCrone · 31/08/2019 15:18

I miss Maryz too.
And the days of yore when AIBU was full of amazingly unbelievable unreasonableness. Lands of Lost Content in more ways than one.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 31/08/2019 15:18

Op is being very very unreasonable.

noroominthefridge · 31/08/2019 15:19

Really whom gives a shit where people post.

Well, because it clogs up my screen with stuff that holds no interest for me. I have chosen to hide Style and Beauty for example. Mainly because I have none of either, but also because I just don't care about it.

I like the "Last Day" screen to be populated with topics of some vague interest and not 15 discussions about handbags/gel nails/shoes.

Nothing wrong with being interested in those things - just not for me.

JacquesHammer · 31/08/2019 15:20

It isn’t compulsory to read threads, just read those that interest you.

Would you be more comfortable on noroominthefridgenet? Smile

Cinammoncake · 31/08/2019 15:22

Proroguing AIBU Shock

YABU

NoLeopard · 31/08/2019 15:23

I bet the only people who post in the 'right' sections are us old codgers from the pre-aibu era. The trouble began in 1960 when a few posters prefaced their posts with Am I Being Unreasonable? That was all MN towers needed to launch the equivalent of the Daily Mail and it's been car crash reading ever since. The contortion of thread titles to try and make sense of the acronym is the only saving grace!Grin

Bluntness100 · 31/08/2019 15:23

Agree, just read what interests you. You don't need to click on anything else. I predominantly look at active. I sometimes have a look at gardening or employment issues. I click on what interests me. I really don't care what section people post under.

noroominthefridge · 31/08/2019 15:23

@lawnmowingsucks - well I don't agree that it is true of all the posters that I am referring to (a bit less aggressive than judging).

Many recent posts that I have seen have begun with "Not AIBU but posting for traffic..." or WTTE. That isn't debating long and hard, that's just bunging it in AIBU so that somebody answers.

OP posts:
gingersausage · 31/08/2019 15:24

Why are you posting in AIBU then? For traffic presumably. Or because you didn’t know this should go in Site Stuff. So you’ve shot yourself in the foot somewhat.

greenlavender · 31/08/2019 15:24

@noroominthefridge - I couldn't agree more, drives me mad!

coconuttelegraph · 31/08/2019 15:25

It isn’t compulsory to read threads, just read those that interest you

That's the problem though, how do you find the interesting threads if active convos is full of repeated threads or banal stuff. It would be understandable if there were no topics but why set up a site with topics then totally ignore their existence?

I post on some more actively moderated sites which has its own issues but the user experience is better imo as you know what you're dealing with and where to find what you want.

greenlavender · 31/08/2019 15:26

Has anyone mentioned - Am I pregnant? - we don't know, do a test. What colour shall I paint my walls / we don't know what your tastes are...and breathe.

noroominthefridge · 31/08/2019 15:28

Would you be more comfortable on noroominthefridgenet?

Grin depends how random their AIBU postings are.

OP posts:
ShirleyB50 · 31/08/2019 15:28

I suggest you get a life.

And yes,I'm tired too. Very tired

Roozy123 · 31/08/2019 15:28

The "Am I pregnant!?"... "Could i be pregnant!?" ... posts DRIVE ME NUTS!!!!!!!!!

So you're asking "AIBU because I could be pregnant!?"Confused

No one knows... take a bastard test or read your post to your GP.

foodloves · 31/08/2019 15:29

Why are you posting in AIBU then? For traffic presumably. Or because you didn’t know this should go in Site Stuff.

I thought it was a stroke of genius that OP posted it here and not in sure stuff, given the content Grin

lawnmowingsucks · 31/08/2019 15:30

Many recent posts that I have seen have begun with "Not AIBU but posting for traffic..." or WTTE. That isn't debating long and hard, that's just bunging it in AIBU so that somebody answers.

So YOU don't like this trend so YOU want MN to suspend AIBU so YOU don't have to see the posts that YOU don't appreciate

There's a pattern forming here

IncrediblySadToo · 31/08/2019 15:32

YABU

Your thinking ‘long & hard’ didn’t lead you to ‘Site Stuff’ as the obvious place to post about...site stuff?!

I think it’s fine how it is. It’s good there are sections for Gardeners, Christmas & WoollyHugs (more specific interests) & of course the important things like SN, Bereavement,Terminal illness and Pregnancy concerns/decisions as well as Conception, Baby Names, Weight Loss and the like, but other than that the individual topics are a waste of time ....

AIBU & Chat could be combined into a General Chat

Lots of threads have been done over & over, & some people start them now because they’re Goady Fuckers!, but others start them because it’s something they haven’t read the previous million threads about - it’s no big deal. Post or ignore - they eventually change over time

No one needs to look up
‘Previous Threads’ for things such as ‘what to do in New York’ because it’s a CHAT forum, people come to chat in reasonably ‘real time’ not do a ‘search’ on previous threads. Interaction

I do prefer threads that give a bit more info in the title, but it’s nit a big deal to open & thread then close it if it’s not something you want to read or post about.

🤷🏻‍♀️

IncrediblySadToo · 31/08/2019 15:35

@Roozy123

Are we a little touchy?!

So what if someone wants to see if others can see the lines or not or debate the possibility of dates etc

If it bothers you that much try a gardening forum, not a parenting one. People are excited or worried & just want some chat/reassurance/to share thryr excitement

.

kenandbarbie · 31/08/2019 15:36

What would you allow in aibu then?
