That the sound of DH eating crisps makes me want to hit him on the head with a hammer?

I’m sure I have misophonia or something but my house is too noisy for me in general. DH is eating some kind of party snacks and the noise is driving me insane. It sounds like nails down a blackboard.

So is he supposed to not eat in case it makes you irrationally violent?

Preferably...

Livingthedream12345 · 30/08/2019 21:31

My ex used to swill cherry brandy round his mouth as if it were mouth wash before swallowing, every, single, mouthful. Horrendous. Used to put my fingers in my ears. He did the tipping the crisps in his mouth from the bag too.
I repeat....ex.
These were not his worst features either!!!

Disfordarkchocolate · 30/08/2019 21:31

@BeingATwatItsABingThing I have a 'big biter' too, it's like he's slightly dislocated his lower jaw. We largely eat in separate rooms at home.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2019 21:38

Disfordarkchocolate

His head actually shudders while he takes bites out of a burger. Horrible!

KurriKurri · 30/08/2019 21:39

@justforthisnow
Aw - thank you - I hope you are doing Ok too.
Yes my XH ran off with a girl he found on the internet - it's a long story ! - but I am fine. I guess the lesson is 'never trust a man who makes a noise when he eats his cereal 'Grin

releasethehounds · 30/08/2019 21:39

Not too bothered about him eating but when he vapes the sharp stutter of intake of breath combined with the little 'click' of the vape is enough to start me smoking (and I've never smoked). Makes me want to stick that vaping wand where the sun don't shine 😠

springtime12 · 30/08/2019 21:45

It's not just the sound of the crisps being crunched but the sound pf the bag rustling.

Rustle rustle crunch crunch

🙉

madcatladyforever · 30/08/2019 21:45

I have misophonia so bad I cannot live with another person. Nervous tics in particular drive me round the bend.

purplepoop · 30/08/2019 21:46

Every time my DH eats it grates on me. Been with him for 20 yrs and I don’t know how I’ve lasted.

He has a knack of eating and breathing noisily through his nose at the same time. Think of a pig snorting food in a trough.

In the car his nasal breathing makes me want to smother him. His mum was like that and I could hear her feet away. Must be in the genes.

MisterOnion · 30/08/2019 21:50

I can sympathise. DP is a VERY loud eater, yet sometimes has the audacity to criticise my 'slow, but loud eating'. FWIW, I make no where near as much noise as he does (if any).

Allmyfavouritepeople · 30/08/2019 21:52

I hate this and it's just crisps. Gives me the rage.

CantSleepWontSleepSleep · 30/08/2019 21:59

DH has taken to eating sourdough toast and slurping tea next to me on the couch every night. How he is still alive I do not know!

Can't be at the table when him and DC are eating spaghetti!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 30/08/2019 21:59

I did snap at DH about slurping.
He'd slurp coffee, spaghetti and other wet food. I'd get a twitchy eyelid but sometimes you can't help the odd noise so I said nothing.
Then one day he was eating a sandwich. He slurped! A sandwich, a dry food. You don't slurp a bloody sandwich!
I may have given him a look, sighed aggressively and walked off muttering loudly about the noise.
He has tried to be quieter since, but recently he stood behind me eating a banana and he's very lucky I have such good self control.
Recently he told off ds1 for standing behind him eating while DH used the computer.
I remarked "Oh, I wonder where he gets THAT from." in a sarcastic tone of voice.

Mother87 · 30/08/2019 22:05

My DH ate an APPLE the other day!!! In the SAME room as me🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ And when he eats one in the car and needs both hands on the wheel, he 'holds' in his mouth like a stuffed pig😖😖😖

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/08/2019 22:07

😂

cricketmum84 · 30/08/2019 22:09

I visualised myself putting a cushion over my child's face yesterday when she was chewing bubblegum. I love her dearly but I just couldn't cope with the noise!

LadyRannaldini · 30/08/2019 22:12

It may sound simplistic but how does one eat crisps silently??

LellyMcKelly · 30/08/2019 22:13

“ALEXA PLAY SOME TUNES”

“Here’s a station you might like. Energetic rock”

“🎼Coming out of my cage and I’m doing just fine...”

“ALEXA, LOUDER”

And marital harmony is restored. The sound of the jaw bone action thing can no longer be heard.

LellyMcKelly · 30/08/2019 22:16

As an aside, never mind Brexit, but when I rule the UK eating in cinemas will be banned. Last time I went someone behind me with a cold chomped their way through a smuggled in bag of salt and vinegar Kettle Chips, teeth sucking and everything. Sadly, he is no longer with us.

Sunflower40 · 30/08/2019 22:17

🤣 oh I feel your pain! I CANNOT sit next to anyone eating & make my DH put music/ tv on or leave the room. He slurps yoghurts, glugs juice, troughs pizza.... 🤮🤮🤮 we've been together 15 yrs and I swear he does it sometimes to annoy me, I can hear him drinking juice in the next room!!! We all chew, I DO NOT need to hear anyone doing it though.

Bluntness100 · 30/08/2019 22:17

I think this is normal. The sound of my husband eating soup drives me insane, he clashes his teeth on the spoon. I have to stare straight ahead or leave the room to prevent me saying anything.

sweetkitty · 30/08/2019 22:18

I’m so glad it’s not just me, I know I have a problem with noise. I often have to retreat upstairs for some quiet if they have the tv blaring. DH and the 4DC are all noisy people. If they are have something noisy to eat I actually eat in the other room. Eating things like BBQ makes me feel ill but that’s because I’m vegan too.

Crying laughing 😂 at these. So relatable especially

*
head actually shudders while he takes bites out of a burger. Horrible*

I knew someone whose mouth would shake when they ate a burger as they opened it so wide. Plus colleagues at work who seem to perform a relay of annoying noises. One scrapes the pot of a yoghurt vigorously whilst saying “mmmmmm”. Peace is restored for a second, only to be broken by colleague two producing a GIANT apple from her bag which is clearly going to take two days to CRUNCh, CHOMP and slurp. And it feels like torture. Fills me with rage every time

ImTakingTheEssence · 30/08/2019 22:29

I hate this. I hate the licking of fingers and my mother especially when eating out scrunching a napkin, the sound goes on forever. My brother eats with his mouth open loudly slopping and after watching him while drunk sneeze on a pizza and eat it I have to go in another room.
Plastic bags are a massive trigger or boiled sweets anything where I hear sucking and crunching. I was once in the cinema next to a little boy who had boiled sweets in a bag I must have watched him eat every one the noise was unbearable I could of cried.
Dd knows how much I hate this and likes to eat bubblegum and lollys in my ear it just does something to me.
I'm OK I'm there's background noise I can sit at a table with other people but 1 to 1 just kills me.

beechblob · 30/08/2019 22:35

@KurriKurri 🤣🤣🤣 my dh does the cereal thing, clink clink clink with the fucking spoon in the bowl, he pushes the cereal down with the spoon constantly, he now has a "special plastic bowl" to eat cereal with, it was that or divorce!
