That the sound of DH eating crisps makes me want to hit him on the head with a hammer?

I’m sure I have misophonia or something but my house is too noisy for me in general. DH is eating some kind of party snacks and the noise is driving me insane. It sounds like nails down a blackboard.

I can sympathise op.
I feel murderous when dp eats haribo jellies. I just can't describe the sound!

Disfordarkchocolate · 30/08/2019 20:55

I distract myself by thinking of ways to kill my husband when he eats pizza, he's a very aggressive chewer.

PragmaticWench · 30/08/2019 20:57

I have misiphonia, I genuinely can't physically cope with the sound of DH eating, I feel sweaty/sick/anxious/full of rage. We have to have the tv on.

I have found the best thing over the years though is to push myself to find coping strategies. The more I give in to the revulsion, the worse it gets. I use techniques similar to CBT to cope with it.

Spinnaret · 30/08/2019 21:00

My DH drinking has the same effect. Especially as he then crunches up any ice cubes in the glass. The noise is horrendous.

KurriKurri · 30/08/2019 21:01

This is how my XH used to eat cereal
'pat pat pat' with the spoon
fill the mouth 'chomp chomp suck'
then (the worst bit) 'MMMmmmmmmmmm'

Every bloody mouthful.

I used to feel my whole body tensing waiting for the next noise.

I'd have been justified in divorcing him for his cereal eating alone - never mind the shagging other women Grin

Noteventhebestdrummer · 30/08/2019 21:03

No that's completely normal Smile

Stampy84 · 30/08/2019 21:03

Ugh!! I used to hate listening to my ex eating a lolly- sounded like he was giving it an aggressive blow Job!!
Slurping sucking and awful lip smacking. I’m actually angry just writing about it 🤬

Stampy84 · 30/08/2019 21:04

@KurriKurri my rage levels have risen just reading about that!! Aghhhhh

VanillaSugarr · 30/08/2019 21:05

I can’t stand the Radio 4 clicky tongue talkers. Drink some water!! And Chris Evans eating pies over the radio can fuck right off Angry

KarmaStar · 30/08/2019 21:08

LTB!!😀🍦🍪🍫🍬🍭🍕🍝

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 30/08/2019 21:09

Aargh DH slurping his tea makes me want to kill him. Also when he is eating porridge. I often have to leave the room before I say something aggressive.
But then I struggle with a lot of noise anyway, he would quite happily have the TV on in the background, and be watching something on the iPad, and have the radio on. Too many different noises stress me out, give me peace and quiet any day, I don't like "background noise" as he calls it.

HostessTrolley · 30/08/2019 21:11

Haha my meal planning is dictated by the sounds my dh makes. When he’s home, no spaghetti or linguine as pasta twists are quieter. No chilli with tortilla chips or garlic bread (finger sucking and lip smacking) and certainly no ribs.

And I put the muesli/granola out of sight. It literally sounds like someone chucking gravel in a washing machine.

BelleCarig · 30/08/2019 21:12

Oh god YANBU. One day I will snap and throttle my DH when he's slopping his chops. Until then I quietly leave the room or turn the telly up Grin

7Worfs · 30/08/2019 21:13

I can’t stand the sound of DH eating toast. In recent years he has started making a sound that I can only describe as smashing his jaws together that produces something like clicking (my butt clenched just typing this).

It’s such an old man sound Angry

RandomMess · 30/08/2019 21:14

YANBU I have a colleague that at noon each working day eats his crisps with his mouth open AngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

Iflyaway · 30/08/2019 21:15

Not funny.

My friend was actually killed by her husband throwing a hammer at her.

Divorce is a better option...

hazeyjane · 30/08/2019 21:18

Carabou

Burgle

Titsywoo · 30/08/2019 21:19

I feel the same about DH and the way he drinks tea. The way he slurps and gulps it makes me shudder with revulsion. I have to put my fingers in my ears now when he does it because it makes me so angry. No idea why!

hazeyjane · 30/08/2019 21:19

...sorry. wrong thread

Horehound · 30/08/2019 21:20

Yanbu!!

emilybrontescorsett · 30/08/2019 21:22

Hell this reminds me of an ex.
When eating crisps he used to shake the bag several times and then tip his head bag and throw them down his throat. I asked him wtf he thought he was doing. He still did it.
Christ the thought of it now makes me want to heave.

justforthisnow · 30/08/2019 21:24

@kurrikurri crying laughing here 😂, you were v good to me many years ago re post birth ptsd, cant believe anyone would leave you, hope you ok. Not stalkery but you really helped me and hope all ok.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2019 21:25

The sound of DH eating cereal makes me go all twitchy. I usually end up snapping at him, it makes me so angry.

He also takes the biggest bites of burgers. It’s really awful and I tell him to stop it every time.

justforthisnow · 30/08/2019 21:26

To answer op, visualising a wooden baseball bat (gift from Cuba) doing a job on the occipital lobe, in my own head only (for CPS purposes) does wonders.
I buy cheese a lot, this also works.

Dontsharefood · 30/08/2019 21:27

So is he supposed to not eat in case it makes you irrationally violent?
