FIL threatening to call the police because DH won’t speak to him WWYD?

As title says. Father in law has threatened (by email) to call the police because DH won’t speak to him. Says it's a “welfare check” because he doesn’t know how DH (in his 40s) or our child is. The ILs were cut off for abuse (called DH names to our child) and threats to me (said they would come in my home and see my son whether I liked it or not).

I think we should send the email to the police so they have heads up that it is time wasting because the ILs know DH is not speaking to them and the reasons why, and tell the ILs we’ve done that (with copy to the police) so the police don’t arrive at our door.

Is that unreasonable?

Just wait it out and say nothing, eventually they will see the in-laws for what they are and realised that yours is the best strategy!

Exactly this. My brother has now turned his nastiness on someone who was “sure I was taking things the wrong way” and now they see.

Just don’t get sucked into picking up the pieces when it’s their turn.

lyralalala

I won’t.

Too many lies have been told for anyone to ever be a family again though. No one knows what is true anymore. Even when the PILs die the family will be divided.

How do these people get to be so completely batshit??
is it because people are living longer and have more time for their personalities to evolve into something impossible to deal with?

mamaraah · 30/08/2019 22:15

Hi op
I had a similar situation with my over bearing mother a few years ago. She did phone the police and that launched an overseas missing person investigation ( she is not in Britain) and the first I knew about it was when the police turned up at my door. Dp was at work and dd was asleep in bed. The police were very nice about it and had guessed that my mum was a pain in the backside.i was furious at her for wasting resources though. She hasn't tried that stunt since, we do talk now and she is not as annoying as previously ( living in different countries helps a lot. I can hang up if necessary and ignore phone calls )

Just let him get on with it is my honest opinion.

Whosorrynow I’ve known these people for many years and they have always stalked people like this. A relative tried to break away over ten years ago and MIL asked me whether she should call the police. I think she just wanted me to say yes so she could say I told her to do it. I stopped speaking to her because of manipulation like that.

They are just bullies who want to control everyone.

Just ignore them.

They don't have any legal right to know how you are, whether you are fine, etc etc.

So they call the police, make up some bullshit, actually get officers to your door..

You say 'yep, we're all fine thankyou but we went NC with that person years ago due to harrassment/whatever and want nothing to do with them, this is their further attempts to harrass us, so sorry you've had your time wasted'.

They will then bugger off and make a note that theyve attended, nothing wrong and end of story. (though if PIL attempt that again its likely to then be on the system and they are likely to be told to sod off).

Pollywollydolly · 31/08/2019 02:41

Leave the police alone ffs. They have real crimes to deal with.

Amcor · 31/08/2019 02:47

Pollywollydolly

“Ffs”? You sound as if you need help for your anger!

It was Pollywilly who had the overreaction! Barking the order “Leave the police alone”, swearing, because someone threatened to call the police on the op?

What do you think FFS stands for? Freedom for Swadlincote?

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/08/2019 11:29

😃 @NoddyAndBessy you’re not far from me!.

Who the fuck has had fits? I'm fully prepared to swear and am not offended by it, but to say that an acronym that uses the word "fuck" isn't swearing is fucking stupidity of the highest order.

Amcor · 31/08/2019 15:37

It’s a very, very common internet term...

No it’s not! 😂

Only if you swear 🙄

Sharksies · 31/08/2019 15:44

Ignore them. The bar for a welfare check is pretty high and usually only used in cases where the person involved is classed as vulnerable.

It’s unlikely the police will come around now when it’s clear you have not spoken to them for a long time already.

CandyLeBonBon · 01/09/2019 13:09

FFS is a very common term!

Cassilis · 01/09/2019 14:07

I do agree that 'FFS' is mostly used on MN to shout down someone else quite aggressively.
