To ask if it’s normal to feel like crap after taking the morning after pill?

Name changed for this. Posting for traffic really.

Took the MAP (ellaOne) the day before yesterday, following a condom mishap. I am due to have the Nexplanon inserted, but was given an appointment for two weeks time, so we’ve been using condoms in the meantime.

Now, 48 hours later, I still feel unwell! Nauseous, shaky, stomach ache, gas ect. Almost feels like I’ve got a mild hangover. I’ve never had to take the MAP before so was wondering if this is normal.

Thanks Smile

Yes totally normal. I took it one morning went to do a food shop soon after and felt very faint and nauseous. Had to go home to sleep and slept for 6 hours. Had a headache on/off for About 3 days. If I'm not mistaken, it's a sudden surge of hormones into your body to have quick effect so will obviously have some side effects. You'll be ok :)

Yep makes you feel like you've been out all night drinking and got hit by a bus on the way home.. Only ever had to take it once and I still remember!

PumpkinP · 30/08/2019 13:57

Yep, my periods totally messed up after taking it aswell. They’re always ridiculously heavy now and was never like that before.

slipperywhensparticus · 30/08/2019 13:58

Yes

spanglydangly · 30/08/2019 14:03

Normal, watching Netflix with pizza and chocolate is a good antidote though. It'll pass soon.

cheesydoesit · 30/08/2019 14:29

Yup. Normal. Take it easy.

FloatingObject · 30/08/2019 14:43

Normal. Don't freak out if you start bleeding a lot either, that happened to me.

Kplpandd · 30/08/2019 15:17

Yeah I remember it made me throw up

MorganKitten · 30/08/2019 16:31

Yep

Duchessgummybuns · 30/08/2019 16:55

Yes, for me it sort of “forced” a period. Horrible. Hope you feel better soon x

flyingspaghettimonster · 30/08/2019 23:15

I was nauseous after taking it, but it didn't work for me and I still got pregnant.

Schwibble · 30/08/2019 23:29

I had the worst cramps ever, light to medium bleeding and was extremely tired and tearful. The cramps lasted perhaps a few hours and the other symptoms lasted for two to at most three days. But it worked, didn't affect my cycle, and my next period arrived on time.

LittleDoritt · 30/08/2019 23:30

God, I was so ill after taking the MAP. Three days like you describe followed by three days of Noro-like symptoms. (No one else in the family got it so definitely wasn't Noro!)

NoMustardPlease · 31/08/2019 11:09

Thanks all! I feel much better today (nausea and shakes have gone), but my back is killing me! It normally does before a period so I’m guessing AF is on her way.

Also, I’m pretty sure I ovulated 4/5 days before the condom mishap, so it’s probably fairly unlikely I’ll get pregnant anyway. But I wasn’t 100% sure, so took the MAP just in case.
