The government is starting an advertising campaign next week telling us all to "Get Ready!".

What else can it mean?

By the way, it's costing £100m.

The radio ads in Ireland have really upped the number of ads warning people against buying online from the UK. It is even on the news bulletins telling people to buy online from the EU only.

It sounds really strange as the UK was always considered a close neighbour.

PigletJohn · 02/09/2019 13:47

I'm weighing up the chance that UK-grown crops will be harvested by Brexer volunteers now that the supply of foreign seasonal workers has dried up.

Juells · 02/09/2019 13:47

I wonder how it will affect digital purchases? I buy so much from Amazon UK, for the kindle. :(

I assume it's firstly because 1. delivery will be delayed for an unknown period due to customs holdups and knock on, and 2. We don't yet know what tax and duty will be liable so a purchaser expecting to pay the price on the site as they do today could get a nasty surprise.

So most likely a short term disruption then longer team perfectly possibly but at a higher cost and hassle.

Like most of Brexit.

I'm sure there are millions of eager volunteers. After all, it's the perfect way to demonstrate patriotic BlitzSpirit.

Correct re the VAT. The other reason is the shipping and cost of returns will be more expensive. They are telling people to buy from EU websites and dispatch centres only.

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 02/09/2019 14:13

They are not mentioning hold ups and delays. Simply to avoid UK websites.

Go through MN HQ to make a journo request.

Blatherskite · 02/09/2019 17:14

Journalist requests need to go through HQ.

Horatioroses · 02/09/2019 17:29

Though it is nice to see a journalist not just copying and pasting from a thread.

@StrakerAndBarlow this is how I’m going to sell stockpiling to my husband Grin

@MaudBaileysGreenTurban, watching British politicians dealing with Brexit is like watching the US responding to yet another mass shooting. You quickly lose compassion, especially when the blaming of the Irish starts. Two years of doing fuck all and the number of deniers of a major fuck up that is no-deal is astonishing.
Britain is marching towards its internal split and the while Labour have been watching with as much potency as an eunuch trying to conceive triplets, Tories are rejoicing because they will have their own sandbox to play with. Watch the NHS being privatised, social benefits being cut and the school system financed by the state starved and dumbed down while the Daily Mail are stirring shit with more articles about doctors’ errors, shameless scrounges living off social benefits while breeding more children and immigrants overloading the schools - I hate reading the crap but do it because it’s giving you a very good picture of the public manipulation.
I honestly wish Boris Johnson’s parents finished with a different BJ instead of what Britain has chosen but here you go and between him and Trump, the world will burn while his class will be getting richer.

PigletJohn · 03/09/2019 06:32

I read in the FT that Liar Gove has produced a revised version of Yellowhammer, toned down to minimise the problems and soothe away panic.

But it is so bad they don't dare let the public see it.

Bunker mentality.

@EerieSilence, I agree. It's just hard to tell what's satire anymore...

Jacob Rees-Mogg is inhuman - no compassion and he’s not in touch with the real world. He’s top of my list of MP’s I hope loose their seat at the general election.

Not sure how much of what the EU says is reported on British news (although I usually watch Sky headlines). After BJ's press briefing yesterday evening, Barnier theorised that it was BJ positioning himself to be able to blame all lack of progress on the EU (as usual). He (BJ) is lying all the time about the talks with the EU - absolutely nothing has changed, but he's giving the impression that the British are putting forward all sorts of ideas and ways forward, and that it's vaguely promising.

Where's a good place to buy Fray Bentos meat pies? They're about £2.50 round here in the supermarts. Profiteering?

Juells · 03/09/2019 17:04

I see them in Tesco's all the time.

WaterSheep · 03/09/2019 17:12

They sell them in poundland as well

RosesAndRaindrops · 03/09/2019 17:25

Fray Bentos pies are in B & M's as well, saw some today. Definitely not 2.50!
Are we doing Spam tins too? Like a bit of spam.
With winter coming up, might try staining my legs with gravy instead of buying tights, if we're expecting to go all out 40s rationing stylee Grin

PigletJohn · 03/09/2019 17:34

What is B&M?

Dogs will lick your gravy-scented legs.
