I have to be up in 4 hours and I can’t sleep

Have to leave at 4am for a flight and I can’t sleep. I’m always the same, the earlier I have to be up, the longer it takes to go to sleep.

Help!

Could you download a sleep app?

I find I fall asleep much quicker if I have some background noise.

HattieMcNastie · 30/08/2019 00:04

And put the phone away!!! ;)

Northernsoullover · 30/08/2019 00:05

I'm the same. I found that getting up, getting dressed and going for a doze on the sofa works better than just lying there. Are you going on holiday or work?.

Ponoka7 · 30/08/2019 00:05

Get off your phone, your brain isn't going to switch off if you are entertaining it.

Qwerty19 · 30/08/2019 00:05

Same. Bad restless legs and pregnant of not I'd be taking whatever I could buy to knock me out. Currently pacing up and down trying to tire my legs out or something. If I stay in bed ill disturb dh.
4 nights in a row I've only had 2 to 3 hours sleep. My brain and body is so tired...

BadgerBadgerMushroom · 30/08/2019 00:06

I was the same last week. Got a few hours eventually

StillMe1 · 30/08/2019 00:07

It could be you are stressing over the early start. I do the same. Maybe get up and have a drink and try again

Freddiefox · 30/08/2019 00:07

Try head space, or just tell yourself it doesn’t matter and you’ll sleep on the plane

KOKOtiltomorrow · 30/08/2019 00:07

OP I feel your pain - I’m up now cos I can’t sleep despite averaging 3 hours a night for the last umpteen years. I’ve tried everything to no avail. I think you just need to accept it and find sleep when u can.

user764329056 · 30/08/2019 00:08

Am on 2nd night of insomnia OP so feel your pain, physically so tired but mentally on fast spin, so sodding frustrating

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/08/2019 00:09

Get out of bed, pull back the covers and let them cool.
Get a glass of warm milk and drink it.
Have a wee.
Get back into the now cool bed and try again.

which1 · 30/08/2019 00:09

I've never taken an early flight yet but in that situation I'd just stay up late and do bits and pieces to kill the time.
Tidy the bathroom cabinet.
Descale the kettle
That kind of thing

But if you're determined to sleep I find a hot cup of tea often works well.

MissBehaves · 30/08/2019 00:10

Audiobook or search ‘sleep meditation’ on YouTube if I were you... phone down!

Have a good flight!

thewinkingprawn · 30/08/2019 00:11

You need to put the phone down. You will never go to sleep with it on

MadamDeMorency · 30/08/2019 00:11

Dh fell asleep at 8pm. Don’t want to disturb him as he is driving to airport. He finds it so easy to adjust his sleep. Might listen to relaxation on sofa, just need to unpack headphones
