To do the school run in festival attire

I’m going to a festival after I drop DC to school tomorrow, there’s a 50% chance I will get parking right outside and not have to get out of the car but also a 50% chance I will have to park across a main and walk over. It would make my life so much easier to be ready and hit the road straight away but I’m feeling really self conscious and awkward. I wouldn’t be showing an inch of skin but would be very colorful clothes/make up and hair.

It’s such a nothing issue, I know, but I am really torn!

Only you know how embarrassed you will be. How old are your DC? My DS is 8 and he'd never forgive me.

I’ve picked up my daughter from school on the way home from a festival which I think was worse 😂 hadn’t showered for 5 days, was covered in mud, beer and sweat. Yum.

Oh gosh a woman picked up her dd from my childs school and she was dressed in a see through mesh dress with underwear underneath!! Everyone was staring at her😂 as long as you’re not dressed like that should be ok, her kid was so mortified!

One of our mum's picked up her child before heading off to a Pink concert. She had glittery gems all over her face, hair all done...she got lots of compliments!

Could you do your make up there or once you've done drop off? Can't imagine the outfit to travel to a festival being too ott

Drabarni · 29/08/2019 17:59

I wear festival type of clothes a lot as prefer them to other clothes. Nobody batted an eyelid.
If you are one of these that just dresses like this for a festival people will just think you are off somewhere festivally, or a bit weird.

It's fine. I would be envious if I saw a mum dressed up for a festival for the school run and think she was v cool.

NewName54321 · 29/08/2019 18:09

Your options:
Arrange for someone else to drop children at school.
Arrive early so you get the parking space you want.
Drop children and return home to get changed.
Go anyway and style it out.

Every other November I see mums with red hair, red noses, etc. dropping off kids. I have seen mums dressed up for work for charity who work in banks, opticians to name two.

LaBelleSauvage · 29/08/2019 18:16

Just put a coat over it if you're embarrassed

Spoonsmum · 29/08/2019 18:28

I once saw a mum on the school run wearing a gold sequinned body suit. I didn’t know the reason. Maybe there wasn’t one. I thought she looked amazing and she didn’t look self conscious at all. She’s my mum hero. I’d love to do that every day :)

Mitebiteatnite · 29/08/2019 18:34

I did the school run dressed as the Very Hungry Caterpillar once. No fucks given.
