Announced on the news that boris johnson may suspend parliament to reduce the chance of mps being able to block a no deal brexit allowing him to democratically force the uk to leave the EU.

Am i wrong in thinking if this goes ahead there may be serious protests and maybe even riots in london and all across the country to force the governments hand?

‘I have been assured I could work in New York and have no trouble getting a visa.’

@Alexalee Seriously? You seriously don’t know you need a visa to work in the US? Did you never watch the film Greencard?

This has got to be a wind up? Anyone?

MamaFlintstone · 28/08/2019 14:52

Maybe it is just the field I work in at a multinational company with offices all around the world then. But I have been assured I can work in New York and would have no problem getting a visa

Aye and back in the real world for the majority who don’t work for multinational corporations, our abilities to work abroad have been massively curtailed by this. I’m a professional with skills which are desirable in this country and the EU but I’d struggle to get a job which would sponsor a visa in the US or Canada for example. That’s leaving aside the fact I don’t want to move there, I’m British and I like (or liked, anyway, until the fuckwits started running the asylum) living here.

pumkinspicetime · 28/08/2019 14:52

I think what alexlee is saying is that the company she works for could easily get her a visa which enabled her to work in the NYC office.
This was the situation for DH and isn't that unsual for multi nationals.

EmeraldShamrock · 28/08/2019 14:52

But I have been assured I can work in New York and would have no problem getting a visa
Ack sure once you are alright Jack, I mean @Alexalee

ABy1er · 28/08/2019 14:53

Your company will have to prove they can’t offer the position to a US citizen. And great for the people who already work for US companies if you can wangle a US transfer but it’s incorrect to say if you have the skills you can just work in the US. You can’t and Trump wants to make it even harder.

Carthage · 28/08/2019 14:54

I don't think they'll be riots because the professionally angry are on the Brexit side, and they want it to go through no matter what happens to the country.

The million people on the People's March were ridiculously well behaved. Our eyes will roll to the back of our heads but I can't see any pitchforks.

Alexalee · 28/08/2019 14:55

Read what I said again suzey

Kaddm · 28/08/2019 14:55

I did not vote Tory
And I did not vote to leave
And I am no fan of BJ

However, BJ now needs to execute Brexit as the majority voted for it and the deadline is coming up. JC wants to topple BJ, which is ridiculous given how close Brexit is. MPs are stalling because they don’t want Brexit, again ridiculous because it was voted for, it needs to go ahead now. So as far as I can see, closing off people who are trying to derail the process is actually a good idea.

Am I misunderstanding this? I voted remain and we LOST! But I can accept that.

pumkinspicetime · 28/08/2019 14:55

True ab you need to have worked for the company for a certain time and be at a certain level. It isn't the same as what we are losing in the EU.

ABy1er · 28/08/2019 14:56

And Akexalee why are you planning on clearing off to NYC if the garden is so rosy here?Confused

historysock · 28/08/2019 14:57

A peaceful protest has been arrange for London tonight at 17.30 I believe...much good it will do.

KennDodd · 28/08/2019 14:57

Somebody asked earlier about protests. I hope this works.

Actually a lot of Brexiteers derailed the process because it wasn't extreme enough for them.

Gilead · 28/08/2019 14:58

Hmm. I think folk will take to the streets.

Kaddm A referendum was held, not a legally binding vote.

ABy1er · 28/08/2019 14:58

Exactly Pumpkin as it stands my dh and kids could work move or set up a business anywhere in the EU. Do people honestly not want this freedom anymore, to be stuck with the tiny amount of prospects our tiny country offers?

Alexalee · 28/08/2019 14:59

I never said I was going anywhere... I think there will be very little change over the next few years
I was asking why others who thought it was going to be terrible werent looking to leave.

ButterflyAles · 28/08/2019 15:00

So we need to leave the EU because of democracy, and democracy should not be ignored, but our democratically elected MPs should be denied their voice in the hugely important decision which is likely to define our country's immediate and long term future, because that particular bit of democracy isn't worth bothering with?

Kaddm · 28/08/2019 15:01

But what was the point of the referendum if the result was not to be acted upon? As far as I can see, legal or advisory, the referendum result ought to be carried out otherwise it was pointless. I still don’t get it.

pikapikachu · 28/08/2019 15:02

Am I misunderstanding this? I voted remain and we LOST! But I can accept that.

The electorate did not vote for a specific version of Leave.

Why is No Deal assumed to be better than Norway model for example?

If you asked people in 2016 which version of Leave they'd like, I think that staying in the Common Market and leaving the EU would win- especially when you consider Remain voters who would see that as the second best solution.

I'm the run up to the referendum, lots of Leavers said that No Deal wouldn't happen

ButterflyAles · 28/08/2019 15:02

But what was the point of the referendum if the result was not to be acted upon?

The point was to stop UKIP threatening the Tories' majority.

pumkinspicetime · 28/08/2019 15:03

There is a world of difference in accepting that a vote was held to leave the EU which needs to be followed through on and thinking that suspending Parliment and leaving with no deal is okay.
No deal was not what the referendum was held on. May failed to win an election on the promise of a red, white and blue Brexit.
I can see no good reasons to allow the country to crash out of the EU without even basics like food and medicines having been properly sorted, leaving aside the economic damage when we could still leave with a semi sensible deal.

ABy1er · 28/08/2019 15:04

For the last time- because we were lied to. The facts of Brexit and the type of Brexit were lies.

Akexslee you did say you were assured you could up-sticks to NYC that infers concern and interest enough for questions to be asked and assurances made.

ButterflyAles · 28/08/2019 15:05

There is a world of difference in accepting that a vote was held to leave the EU which needs to be followed through on and thinking that suspending Parliament and leaving with no deal is okay.

This exactly. Suspending democracy because some people don't agree with you is a seriously dangerous thing for our country. I thought a lot of leavers voted to 'make Parliament sovereign'... and now here they are arguing that, actually, they don't want Parliament to be sovereign either, they'll take a dictatorship.

Suzeyshoes · 28/08/2019 15:07

@Alexalee ahh so basically I can get a Visa so surely everybody else can? Pleeease tell me you don’t have such little understanding of the world that you think everybody can get a visa at the click of their fingers. Please.

Bunnyfuller · 28/08/2019 15:08

The Queen said yes.

Fucking hell
