Announced on the news that boris johnson may suspend parliament to reduce the chance of mps being able to block a no deal brexit allowing him to democratically force the uk to leave the EU.

Am i wrong in thinking if this goes ahead there may be serious protests and maybe even riots in london and all across the country to force the governments hand?

Rioting over what?

The will of the people finally being delivered?
Lol

Namenic · 28/08/2019 19:41

I don’t think there will be riots but I think outbreaks of violence in NI might happen - which is a shame because they have been through a lot and historically England had a role in creating the situation over there. I hope the govt budget money to help keep people safe there.

Valanice1989 · 28/08/2019 19:42

The fact that voting is a democratic right doesn't mean you have to respect what people vote for. If there were a referendum on whether marital rape should be decriminalised, I guarantee many people would vote "yes". I would not respect them for it.

Most of the Leave voters I know say they knew what they voting for. Therefore, they must have known that Brexit could potentially put the lives of diabetics at risk and still voted for it. If I had a diabetic family member, I would absolutely not respect those people.

"The point was to stop UKIP threatening the Tories' majority." Yep!

"Johnson has set a dangerous precedent. If I want to surpass parliament I can." Exactly - and all those glad about it in this instance need to stop and think how they'd feel if such an action were taken that forced through something THEY didn't want to happen.

"What was who playing at?" Brexiters right from the point of pushing for a referendum with NO preparation for the possible outcomes and NOT EVEN organising beforehand what EXACTLY "leave" means - they can't even agree amongst themselves! Remainers position has been clear and unchanging.

"Brexiteers have had very little influence in anything up until July."if THAT were true the referendum wouldn't even have happened! And they've certainty been vocally and legally active throughout the entire farce!

"Live like my grandparents?" All 4 of my grandparents were staunch socialists who fought in a war to PREVENT us from living in an extreme right wing dictatorship led by bigots! They'll be spinning in their graves!

"And idiots have popped onto those threads now and again calling them scaremongers...It is panicking eejits who have had their heads in the sand that cause problems." And STILL on one of the threads discussing this there's been someone going 'the uk govt won't stop imports though' myself and at least one other pointed them in direction of brexit prep threads!

"Actually I live in the Channel Islands." Then frankly I feel you have NO RIGHT To comment as this complete fuck up won't affect you whatever happens!!

"and the Police were struggling to keep control" because their numbers have been decimated. Some posters are assuming those of us saying we think there WILL be riots are saying there SHOULD be riots - that's not necessarily true it certainly isn't for me! My brother and several friends are police officers I am worried there will be riots because they will be expected to deal with them to try and keep people safe and there aren't enough of them for them to be able to do this safely for themselves because of all the cuts!

"#GeneralStrike currently tending on Twitter." Yea I saw that too

"Australia isn't in the customs union" good grief you're reaching!! To the other Fucking side of the world no less! Go look at a map! They are not mainly trading with Europe BECAUSE it's fucking thousands of miles away!!

"That is a ridiculous way to interpret the vote of any single person in national referendum. Direct consequences of that type are unknowable - you might as well claim that voting for a particular political party directly caused the deaths of people. it's totally ridiculous and unreasonable - it's blinkered, bigoted and discriminatory, and anti-democratic." No! It's the Fucking reality for many of us ALREADY in this country!

"I hope the govt budget money to help keep people safe there." Are you really that naive? They don't give a shit about the people of NI

Weston14 · 28/08/2019 19:44

The whole thing has been an exercise into how bloody dangerous it is having the right wing media and the government in each other's pockets. I am ashamed to be British.

zackly · 28/08/2019 19:46

the best way to get a deal is to show we mean business on no deal

Out of all the phrases I could use to describe the international image of the UK right now, "they mean business" is extremely low on the list.

isadoradancing123 · 28/08/2019 19:53

I am not a Boris fan but no one seems to have any answers! The vote showed a leave majority, three years have been wasted negotiating! He has to do something and what alternative does he have

chomalungma · 28/08/2019 19:57

He has to do something and what alternative does he have

Find out what the country wants.

A citizen's assembly.
A period of calm.

Something to bring us back together.

Gilead · 28/08/2019 20:09

Just got back from one of the demos. It was busy, and people are angry.

zackly · 28/08/2019 20:10

three years have been wasted negotiating!

There hasn't been a hell of a lot of negotiating going on, let's be honest. A fuck of a lot of faffing though.

Madfrogs · 28/08/2019 20:10

I’ll panic when the sun stops rising and crops stop growing. When the water no longer runs.

Riot? We are British we don’t really riot do we Grin we moan and tut and drink tea while complaining about the youth of today eating a hob nob.

chomalungma · 28/08/2019 20:12

Going to mine at the weekend.

Gosh yes, it's hysterically funny that Johnson and Rees Mog have invoked the divine right of kings. Have you any idea what this means?

I don't think there will be much in the way of rioting in England, but civil war here in NI is pretty fucking likely in my opinion....

ABy1er · 28/08/2019 20:25

I think Brexit has opened many eyes and the UK will never be the same. I hate living here now as only see the flaws, pretty embarrassed to be British and would leave in a heartbeat. I don’t want my dc raising kids here. I had no idea how xenophobic half the country is. I think we look very little, ignorant, silly and are going to struggle massively. I don’t want to be unified ever with people who caused this. They can do what they like, reap what they sow and I’ll do my thing thanks.

PaddyF0dder · 28/08/2019 20:25

Perhaps there should be? When the a PM shuts down parliament and commits to gravely harming the country, what recourse is left?

One tiny flicker of entertainment in the upcoming shit storm post Brexit will be seeing the leavers scratching their heads, whilst blaming each other and trying to work out what the fuck they’re going to do.

FoxFoxSierra · 28/08/2019 20:32

Just when you think it can't get any worse. Boris Johnson is a fucking dictator

Gilead · 28/08/2019 20:35

Well it's all about the will of the people isnt it
Only it isn't, is it, because those we voted in to represent the people are unable to access the commons. You know, the chamber set up to ensure the will of the people was represented.

Namenic · 28/08/2019 20:35

Maybe something peaceful like a general strike? But It might be a bit strange as the demographics of industries affected would be interesting as the average characteristics of leave and remain voters were quite different.

They'll blame the EU for not sucking Britain's todger the way they were told to and anyone who doesn't kowtow to them. It will always be someone else's fault.
