Birthday. What present is reasonable to ask for? Not lighthearted. Very grabby.

DH wants to know what I want for my birthday. I normally say "nothing" and I get a cheque for £30 which is very nice but I would like a present this time. What's the best present you've been given? Doesn't need to be massively expensive but you can see he's thinking plus or minus £30.

A flower subscription
An echo dot
A cinema trip

Jellyhater · 27/08/2019 23:11

Perfume.

Mammyloveswine · 27/08/2019 23:13

A night away in a hotel!

Celledora · 27/08/2019 23:14

A massage.
Books.
A day to myself!

RichPetunia · 27/08/2019 23:17

I really like to receive a book, chocolates and a pamper pressie like face masks, good conditioner, shampoos etc.
Also not adverse to an Itison voucher and gift cards. Doesn't ever need to be big or costly, just thoughtful.

ShinyMe · 27/08/2019 23:18

Honestly the best present I've ever been given was when my mum gave me 36 Tupperware boxes containing her homemade casseroles and stews and various dinners. It was amazing. Probably not the kind of thing you want to ask him for though.

22Giraffes · 27/08/2019 23:19

I'd like perfume or some nice candles

Floralnomad · 27/08/2019 23:20

At the moment I’d ask for the Lego treehouse (£170ish)

LizzieMacQueen · 27/08/2019 23:23

Teapot. A fine china one.

Derbee · 27/08/2019 23:24

A 3m lightning cable, if you have an iPhone. I bloody love mine

windmill121 · 27/08/2019 23:24

I love earrings, books, handbags, or pretty scarfs , jewellery box

LaLoba · 27/08/2019 23:24

My husband is ace at giving presents that aren’t ridiculously priced (sorry, I’m not being smug, genuinely appreciated by me!). Usually stuff like a necklace, books in my interests, fancy pampering stuff I wouldn’t buy for myself. Eg, I love gardening and books, but would never have bought the RHS Encyclopeadia of gardening for myself. What would you not usually buy that you’d love to have?

Duck90 · 27/08/2019 23:24

What have you spent the £30 cheques on before? Personally I would be annoyed at having to go into town to pay that into the bank. Maybe you are at the bank more than me?

I would spend it on a perfume or my usual cosmetics.

Sedlescombe · 27/08/2019 23:25

For him to cook dinner...

LaLoba · 27/08/2019 23:25

Ooh a teapot! Always a winner with me! Sorry, I may have had wine.

scotwood · 27/08/2019 23:25

Honestly? The best present I could think of would be that my DH think for himself. Tell him to try that.

82YorkshireLass · 27/08/2019 23:27

We always go for something we can do together. Tickets to a gig, meal out or weekend away.

Duck90 · 27/08/2019 23:27

Derbee - yes that too. I got that as a present, loved it. 3m of cable is ace. 😀

scotwood · 27/08/2019 23:27

@Duck90

While i find the idea of a husband giving his own wife a cheque positively odd, cheques are not as awkward as they used to be. Both of the banks I have current accounts with allow you to pay a cheque in using the app

Decent headphones

Duck90 · 27/08/2019 23:33

@scotwood
That is interesting, I had no idea it was so easy. What do you do with the actual cheque?

LittleDoritt · 27/08/2019 23:36

Books!

Chocolateandamaretto · 27/08/2019 23:36

Anker charging bank!

This is genuinely one of the gifts my dh got me for my birthday last year and it is the most used and loved.

MrsMaryMooFace · 27/08/2019 23:40

Luxury skincare! Like Kiehls, Elemis, that kind of thing. Or a really nice candle. Or some beautiful perfume, Jo Malone or something. Something you wouldn't buy yourself.
