Posting for traffic.

Rarely go out as a couple. Very little family help so am considering asking a friends very sensible and grown up 16 daughter. I have Ds6 and ds1. Would have them.both in bed before she arrives so heres hoping it would be a fairly chilled evening for her in front of netflix. Would let her help herself to food and drink. We would only go to the cinema or the curry house around the corner so only out for a couple of hours tops!!! So what would we pay her? Haven't the foggiest! Hourly? Or per night? Can anyone help? I rem getting £3 a hour in the 90s!!!!!

We pay £8 and hour. If part hours we pay for a full hour though.

Atlasta · 28/08/2019 10:59

I'd probably be giving her £10 as it's only for 2 hours and there's a good chance they'll stay in bed.
A full 4/5 hour night-out I'd be thinking £25

MarieG10 · 28/08/2019 11:17

£5-6 an hour in the north anyway

youngestisapsycho · 28/08/2019 11:31

My DD charges £7 an hour in west London... she's cheap apparently!

Tink88 · 28/08/2019 11:39

I'd give her £20

Azuresilver · 28/08/2019 11:40

My 16 year old daughter babysits for a few friends and she is paid £6 an hour.

Londonmummy66 · 28/08/2019 15:50

My DC both babysit and get paid between £6 and £10 an hour

caffeinebuzz · 28/08/2019 15:54

We pay £8-10 / hour in the South East, but that's for qualified nannies / nursery workers. Would probably consider £6ish reasonable for what you're talking about.

Directionless2019 · 28/08/2019 15:59

I'd say about £15

Jimdandy · 28/08/2019 16:02

£20 for night

Isadora2007 · 28/08/2019 16:03

£7.50 per hour plus rounded up to the half hour. So 2.5 hours would be £19-20

GummyGoddess · 28/08/2019 16:12

£8 an hour in the south east, for someone from DC's nursery.

SardineJam · 28/08/2019 16:13

South West, we paid £25 for a night

KindnessCrusader · 28/08/2019 16:15

I'm a babysitter. I'm a 35 year old DBS checked and first aid trained mum of 4. I charge £5 an hour. The parents more often than not pay me more but that's my advertised rate. South East England.

nothingsreallynewunderthesun · 28/08/2019 16:18

Blimey I used to get £10 per hour from several different families in the 90s as a 6th former - clearly I was over paid BlushGrin I did look after a non sleeping baby I had to hold all evening (massive earner as his parents never came home until 3am, usually made £80) in one case and 3 preschoolers who wouldn't stay in bed in another.

SummerInSun · 28/08/2019 16:23

I'm in Central London and always pay £10 per hour, even to high school students. That's a bit above the going rate but makes it far more likely that the babysitter will be keen to work for you again next time.

MrsKoala · 28/08/2019 16:24

The cheapest we have found is £10 per hour. One teen wanted £12 ph and money for a taxi here and home - £13 each way. It’s one of the reasons we don’t go out together much.

Have you asked how much they want? I remember being a teen and people asking me to babysit and being out for 6 hours and then giving me a tenner and thinking they were overpaying! It annoyed me that adults thought they got to decide what my services were worth and not me. I always charged £3 per hour or £15 flat rate if it was over 5 hours and that was 1992.

anothernotherone · 28/08/2019 16:30

We couldn't even get a babysitter where we live (don't need one any more as kids older) because we have too many children! Teens would only babysit 2 kids maximum and preferred just one even if they'd be asleep. I guess what you pay depends whether babysitters can pick and choose due to high demand or whether there are lots of babysitters looking for work.

We give my sil £5/hr she is fifteen and it’s more than what she gets at work for her age
