AIBU to ask you to stand up against misogyny and violence?

Regular poster, NC for this.

Here in Australia a high profile radio DJ has once again verbally attacked a high profile women, this time encouraging our PM to stuff a sock down Jacinda Ardern's throat and also give her a few backhanders (over her views on climate change of all things).

Incredibly, he still has a job, and while almost 70 advertisers have withdrawn from his show or the radio station altogether, a number of those who continue their sponsorship are household names around the world, owned and used by MN vipers everywhere.

Companies like Ebay, Isuzu, Kia, LG, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Princess Cruises, Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Sky News, Specsavers and Subway are all still paying for this man to publicly continue the hate.

AIBU to ask you to spare a few minutes to contact these companies where you live, and let them know that it's not acceptable for their brands to be associated with these values. It's not just an Australian issue, these attitudes are unacceptable everywhere.

You can see what kind of man Alan Jones is by watching this screened last night on Australian TV:

www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/episodes/jones/11450788

There is a huge online campaign here in Australia led by Mad Fucking Witches and Sleeping Giants Australia - they have contact details etc on their FB, Insta and Twitter feeds.

Please help stop the hate and get this man off our airwaves

He disagrees with her about the climate. Not because shes a woman. Thats not misogyny

I disagree with donald trump about climate- is that misandry?

Thereblegeopart · 27/08/2019 10:03

What araiwa said.

ArkwrightsTill · 27/08/2019 10:04

The misogyny doesn’t come from the fact he doesn’t agree with her, it’s the violent language/way he has expressed his non-agreement that is misogynistic.

wehaveallhadenough · 27/08/2019 10:05

He said our PM should shove a sock down her throat, and give her some backhanders.
To 2 million people on his radio show.
You think that's ok?

No one is saying its OK, just that it's not based in misogyny.

His last campaign of hate was against two males. They sued his employers for millions.

He's a nasty nasty man, he should be out of a job. Same applies to Boris Johnson, but MN lets him advertise on here. Maybe we should complain to them too!

wehaveallhadenough · 27/08/2019 10:19

Of course it's based on misogyny. That court case was about defamation, not violent threats.

43 Australian women and 12 children have been killed by men, mostly those known to them, since the beginning of 2019. That's definitely not ok, and neither is making public threats against women you disagree with.

Quoting random facts doesn't prove that his comments were misogynistic. We all know that male on female violence is unacceptable.

Focus on getting him out because he's a hatemonger. Don't turn it into something it's not.

wehaveallhadenough · 27/08/2019 10:43

You're right, he is a horrible man.

But he does hate powerful women and while he, and others like him, continue to have such an influence then Australia will continue to have such a significant problem with domestic violence and general acceptance of everyday sexism that is not (IME living in several other countries over the past 20 years) deemed ok in workplaces and social situations elsewhere.

I said someone needs to stuff a maga cap down Trump's throat to stop him talking... And let's not start with what I and many said about Boris. Am I misandrist arsehole? No.

What the DJ said is not misogynistic imho. Just a horrible comment towards politician he disagrees with.
