to wonder how self-absorbed people who only talk about themselves have friends?

I know a few people who just talk about themselves and never ask me questions about anyone else. I always wonder how such people make and keep friends. They always seem to have a lot of sycophants and people generally hanging on their every word and I just wonder how/why?

Some people don't like sharing too much or talking about themselves. Would be a match made in heaven!

I know what you mean, OP.

I find that generally the more selfish and self absorbed someone is, the more people fuss and fawn over them.

They have transactional relationships - each one is different and fulfills a different need. Sometimes they need you to adore them, sometimes they need the accolade of associating with someone they feel is important or powerful. Sometimes they are gaining important gossip or Intelligence to add to their own potential power or allure. I think they're rarely actual loving relationships where both parties care for one another, are interested and have the other's best interests at heart. In these cases, I tend to simply opt out. That's why my kids only have one active set of grandparents Confused
