Question for all those who were picked on in school for some aspect of their appearance: Did changing your appearance actually stop the bullying, or did the bullies just find something else to be nasty over?

Just asking, because to me, this sounds very much like that poem about Danegeld:

And I suspect that the bullies will not stop until the girl conforms to femininity in each and every way, and perhaps not even then.

I was picked on in school for a variety of things, but not my mono-brow, though I think they might have started that if I had ever bothered to do something about the other things they bullied me for.

If she isn't bothered by it and you bring it up as if it's a bad thing, that could have some seriously negative consequences. You don't want her eyebrows to become her biggest self-esteem issue throughout her life, esp. cos she is only 10 and puberty is not going to make self-esteem any better. Plus, thicker brows are in these days lol x

Danielsk - this is a zombie thread - it was started in August 07, so the girl in question is 19 now.

HelenaWay · 13/11/2016 19:30

FFS what's with all the zombie thread just lately???

ellanutella8 · 13/11/2016 19:35

Not read the whole thread but I would. In year 7 a friend asked me if I plucked my eyebrows and finished with maybe I should.
Another classmate asked me why I have so many blackheads on my nose.
I'd much rather these comments have come in a better way from my mum.
If you wait until she is bullied then it's too late.

purplefizz26 · 13/11/2016 19:37

Don't do it your self. Take her for a professional wax, only if she wants to

HelenaWay · 13/11/2016 19:55

OMG ZOMBIE THREAD!!!!!!!

Blossomdeary · 13/11/2016 19:59

Leave it for now - she will ask if she wants to do anything. Concentrate on telling her how lovely she is and making her proud of who she is how she is.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/11/2016 20:24

Ellanutella - this is a zombie thread - the child concerned is 19 years old now.

MrsJayy · 13/11/2016 20:29

My dd was being teased about her eyebrows constantly no matter how much i tried to reassure her they were fine she had a monobrow, she asked to shave them off i took her to get them waxed just a tidy up she was so pleased, op if your dd is wanting them sorted get them waxed sometimes no words of mum encouragement will help them.

MrsJayy · 13/11/2016 20:30

Oh why dont we get zombie alerts anymore. Yes i know i should read the date

Thatwaslulu · 13/11/2016 20:31

Blimey. I'm in my late 30s and have never plucked my brows. They aren't the best shape but I am a wimp.

ellanutella8 · 13/11/2016 21:18

Genius I hope her eyebrows are 'on fleek'!

eyebrowsonfleek · 14/11/2016 13:21

My dd started plucking at 10ish.
