Is it acceptable when no one is in a 5m radius?

There are parasites that swim up your urethra! Lake Malawi and Bilharzia. Lovely!

Nautiloid · 25/08/2019 19:38

I did a wee in the sea last week.
My son did a wee down a tin mine. I told him he wasn't the first by a long way, but he was thrilled and tells everyone about it.

Queenioqueenio · 25/08/2019 19:39

It’s the only reason why anyone goes into the sea isn’t it???

Blobby10 · 25/08/2019 19:41

No problem with weeing in the sea. When my son was about 2, he needed a wee so I said "go in the sea" - looked up a minute later to see him standing there, trunks down by his knees, gleefully peeing Smile. Daughter was a similar age when the same thing happened - she pulled her one piece costume off and squatted Grin Same beach actually but very deserted (and safe!!)

NorberErratics · 25/08/2019 19:43

Not if you're wearing a wetsuit though.

WeeDangerousSpike · 25/08/2019 19:47

You have to wee in the sea if you're wearing a wetsuit, it's not possible to get back into an already wet wetsuit, so you can hardly pop to the loo also it warms up the suit

Alpacamabags · 25/08/2019 19:49

@Blobby10 exact same thing just happened a few weeks ago with my 4 year old. I was putting dry clothes on the wee one and he ran over for a pee. I told him he'd need to wait or go in the loch. Turned around a couple of minutes later and he was stood, ankle deep on the shore, shorts down and aiming gleefully into the water. This was literally in front of at least 40-50 people. I nearly died. All the time he's shouting "what, you told me to!"

AlmostAlwyn · 25/08/2019 20:03

The colour-changing chemical that reacts to urine is a myth. It doesn't exist, but pretty much everyone is convinced it does!

Peeing in the sea is absolutely fine! Nice and warm... ahhh

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/08/2019 20:15

Just be careful of tiny parasitic fish, attracted by your urine, swimming into your urethra.

We were warned about this in the Amazon. Apparently once they get in here it takes microsurgery to remove them.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/08/2019 20:17

*there not here.

I had to wee in the sea last year because there were no "facilities". Sixty years old and never done it before. It was very hard to let go but immensely liberating!

Whitegrenache · 25/08/2019 22:49

Well thanks for the Mumsnet verification of "peeing in the sea is allowed"

It was lovely - I had several glasses of wine then dipped into the sea to "supervise" dc who were having a wonderful time.

Once I'd (ahem) relieved myself I was happy as a pig on shit...except there was no shitting

There is a theory the sea is salty because of all the excitable whales who miss their targets...
😃

I was just going to say that...wanky whales

Lillyhatesjaz · 25/08/2019 23:04

You're meant to wee in your wetsuit to warm yourself up.
Some places hire out wetsuit with surf boards.
I have never worn a wetsuit

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 25/08/2019 23:04

A sea wee. Only thing to do if you’re at the beach all day. And probably better diluted than a swimming pool.

I’ve always told my kids no in pools, but very rarely see any children visiting the toilet during a long day at a pool...

Damnloginpopup · 25/08/2019 23:12

Of course it is. I've done it hundreds of times, most recently in my wetsuit whilst diving (what bliss! Always drink first if wearing a wetsuit. Never drink if wearing a drysuit). I am. Possibly unique in having pissed off the most northern and southern tips of Africa (Cape Agulhas and Ras Ben Sakka).

First Post after 5 years of lurking...think I'd best stick to reading Grin

foxtiger · 25/08/2019 23:13

YANBU - I don't see how you can prevent it really.

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 23:16

I was on holiday last week in Devon. A little boy about 4 years old was paddling and his father watched from the beach. I heard the boy say he needed a wee. The dad said something quietly and the boy said “in here?” quite loudly as children do. I had a little chuckle and then he turned to his dad and said “Dad that wee tea warmed me up!” Grin

Benjispruce · 25/08/2019 23:17

That wee really warmed me up! Flipping phone!

notso · 25/08/2019 23:24

I remember reading a while ago that a leisure centre somewhere had added a urine indicator chemical into the water to stop people peeing in the pool.
When I was in primary we used to go swimming to the local secondary school. The first time we went we were all lined up in the shallow end and the very stern PE teacher told us about the 'special chemical' to detect wee. A boy put his hand up and said "but Sir it's not working, I've just done a wee and the waters still clear" 😂

SpoonBlender · 25/08/2019 23:30

Colour chemicals in pools is a myth.

Fish up your urethra is very near a myth - the fish is candiru and exactly one has ever been removed from someone's tubes. Also they're in the Amazon, not the sea.

TheSandman · 25/08/2019 23:37

As someone who lives on the coast - I can tell you that all my wee ends up in the sea.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 25/08/2019 23:37

I absolutely love weeing in the sea. It feels really liberating for some reason. Since then ive always ended up weeing in the shower too (my own shower, live by myself and keep my bathroom v clean)

Doormat247 · 25/08/2019 23:38

I guess I'm the only one that thinks only dirty bastards do that?
Glad I stay out of the sea (and am praying those amazon fish start colonising all our waterways 😄).
