Neighbours and the fire pit!

Returned home from an evening out, got out of the car on the front drive to the smell of burning wood like a bonfire. Looked around and no sign of anyone having a bonfire, go round to the back of house and the neighbour has a fire pit burning on the patio- she's gone to bed and left it smoking- the washing on the line stinks, the house stinks, had to close all the windows! It's been 25 degrees all day here and it was warm enough to sit out until well after dark tonight so what is the point of a stupid fire pit? And why would you light one on the first night in weeks that it's been nice enough to sit out! It must have made everyone else's gardens unpleasant to sit in! Luckily I was out sitting in my brothers garden tonight so that bit din't affect us- but if we had been in I'd've been even more livid! I know people like BBqs when it's warm but they only smoke whilst they are being used which is just the time it takes to cook the food- the fire pit thing is still smoking now and it's 11.30pm! Neighbour has form for being a pyromaniac!

I went round to speak to them but the neighbour wasn't in, just the professional tree fellers who are feeding the fire with what they cut down.

They've said they're leaving at 4pm at which point they'll dampen the fire.

I've spoken to someone at the council who has sent me a diary I have to keep of their fire activity for 14 days before they'll do anything.

It's particularly irritating because I've got DD's cot mattress protector sitting in the washing machine as her nappy leaked last night. Looks very unlikely I'll get it dry before bedtime Angry

I take back my comment from 2 years ago. And amend it to I love a fire pit that isn't positioned 2 meters away from my house.

This thread popped up when I googled nuisance smoke!!!

My neighbour have taken down all the trees that were at the side of our house (in their garden so their choice), put a patio in, and light a fire every time the weather is nice.
This is at the end of their garden. Miles away from their house but right next to mine. We can't leave the windows open on a hot day. The house stinks. And it's noisy but one complaint at a time!! Rant over.

@twolobsters

Classic MN ridiculousness.

Using a fire pit in the garden is 'selfish fuckery' Hmm. How are chimneas, bbqs etc any different?

Get a grip

All of these are selfish too according to Mumsnet ,as well as Trampolines,loud children ,hot tub,s and God forbid anybody should dare to smoke a cigarette in their own Garden .

Your neighbour is a selfish twat. There are a lot of them around here ... many many social media posts about all the entitled twats suddenly burning things in their gardens (not bbqs) now that the weather's nice, so ruining it for everyone else.

Should be banned in residential neighbourhoods in the summer months.

Just be thankful they don’t have a wood burner, or you’d be having this issue all winter (with the respective particulate pollution, etc).

Maybe she left it on so the spiders could make s’mores after their Willy rubbing shenanigans 🤣
