to think sending police from the rest of the UK to Northern Ireland in the event of a No Deal is a very bad idea?

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/english-police-could-patrol-northern-ireland-border-after-no-deal

"Ministers have drawn up detailed plans to deploy police officers from English forces to Northern Ireland in the event of a no-deal.

In high-risk or emergency situations, police can be sent to other parts of the UK in a procedure known as mutual aid, previously used during the London riots and the G8 summit in Fermanagh"

Because I am sure that history has something to say about that. First we send in the police. Then who do we send to protect the police?

They are playing with fire.

The English police would be a bloody liability in NI and would create more problems that they could solve.

DullPortraits · 24/08/2019 23:13

Not to mention we don't have enough police officers to police England with out sending numbers of them to NI as well 🤷‍♀️

Those who fail to learn from history

It's not like it was even a long time ago...certainly in the lifetime of some of our politicians.

Nah. Won’t be the police
It’ll be the British army

I wish our politicians had at least some idea of recent history on our lands
What a disaster

And with the improvements in communications, explosions, etc, the outcome will be horrendous. It really will make the past troubles seem like a minor spat. The thought of what could happen is horrendous.

Now what does this remind us of, children? Let's all have a think. A gold star for the first hand up.

AlunWynsKnee · 24/08/2019 23:55

What could possibly go wrong...

BackInTime · 24/08/2019 23:58

I cannot believe that we have come to a point where this is being contemplated. Sad and scary times Sad

Even in the Express

I notice how they haven't mentioned much of the history about this.

Horrendously stupid idea. I despair.

MerryChristmasHarry · 25/08/2019 09:11

It has certain, erm, unhelpful connotations. But even if it didn't, in the event of No Deal and the immediate consequences that will flow from that, I can't see how England will be able to spare them.
