AIBU to make DS wear headphones?

DS loves YouTube, like many teens. The videos he watches tend to be very loud, shouty, screeching teens. Often Fortnite videos with lots of shooting noises in the background too.

He watches YouTube on our main TV and on his phone. The noise aggravates me sooooo much. I don't know what it is about it, but I like a calm environment and the sound of OTT, shouty, American teens is like naild on a blackboard to me.

So AIBU to ask DS to wear headphones when he's watching these videos in communal areas? He thinks so, I think not. His argument is that I don't wear headphones to play music in the house, which is true and makes me doubt whether I am in fact being reasonable!

Most definitely should have headphones. My two do. I only have music on in kitchen where I am making their dinner/washing their clothes etc!

YANBU - He should use headphones.

Perhaps you should too?

I make my dh wear Bluetooth headphones when he’s watching the football. The noise otherwise drives me insane.

He should wear headphones. He is the child and doesn’t make the rules.

I feel you pain OP. Sooooooo much. Dd had watched an inappropriate YouTube video (a bit sweary) and I said she can only watch YouTube in the living room now so I can monitor what she is watching.

Shot myself in the fucking foot there didn't I!!

Why do they randomly do that screaming thing 😖. It's so so horrible.

Can't be compared to music imho.

No advice. Just solidarity and I feel your pain sister

He should absolutely wear headphones if the noise bothers you.

It is not the same as you playing music because you’re the adult and it’s your house.

@PositiveVibez that made me laugh so much! So true - we want them to be watching it in front of us so we know what they're watching but at the same time OH MY GOD SHUT UP! Grin
