My very own CF parking thread!!

My anger at the situation is ever so slightly mitigated by the fact that I get my very first parking thread!

My DH and I are heading out this morning. We’re picking up our niece to take her out for the day. She has a fairly chaotic home and for us it’s important that when we say we’re doing something with her we follow through, as other adults in her life let her down a lot.

So...we go to get the car out of our driveway. We have gates across the drive so it might not be obvious that there is a car there. However, directly outside it is a dropped kerb, and it is our drive. I open the gates to get the car out this morning, and a car is parked right across it! It’s impossible to manoeuvre around it and we’re properly blocked in.

What do we do? We have no way of knowing who the car belongs to - it could belong to anyone on a fairly big street. It feels early to knock on doors on a Saturday morning (I have no problem waking up the CF, but I would feel bad waking up the innocent! Grin) but we genuinely have no idea what to do. We’re already going to be late for DN as we were supposed to leave 45 minutes ago.

Start knocking on doors

GruciusMalfoy · 24/08/2019 09:32

Can one of you get a taxi to DN to avoid upset there?

I'd be knocking doors now though, it's after 9 and that seems a reasonable time.

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 24/08/2019 09:32

101
I think it depends on your area and how busy the police are but in my area they would respond
Semi rural and low crime so they are not busy
Take a photo because it is an offense and the police will speak to them

Veterinari · 24/08/2019 09:33

I’d knock on neighbour’s doors. Yes it’s a shame to disturb them but not your fault

mummmy2017 · 24/08/2019 09:34

Start knocking on doors

Owlsintowels · 24/08/2019 09:34

Could you give the car a thump to set its alarm off?

haveuheard · 24/08/2019 09:35

Police and local authority wouldn't do anything here so I wouldn't rely on that. I'd start knocking on doors.

Auntpetunia2015 · 24/08/2019 09:35

I’d knock on immediate neighbours doors see if they know or saw who left it. I’d also put my hand on the horn a few times

Veterinari · 24/08/2019 09:35

Yes car alarm idea is a good one

Hiphopopotamus · 24/08/2019 09:35

Taxi is not an option - it’s an hour and a half drive to pick her up, then another drive to take her where we’re going!

We’ve tried 101 - however we live in a busy city and they said there isn’t anything they can do as it’s a civil matter.

Right - I’m going to knock on doors

How annoying. Door knocking it is! Good luck.

Purplerain16 · 24/08/2019 09:37

One of you get a taxi to pick her up, while the other knocks on doors ☺️

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 24/08/2019 09:38

Taxi to niece, bring her back to yours whilst someone else knocks on doors. It's after 9. Plus the innocent neighbours might have seen who it was.

Sleepyquest · 24/08/2019 09:38

Some people are so inconsiderate. Don't worry, it's gone 9:30 so I think door knocking is absolutely fine Smile

Cornishmum00 · 24/08/2019 09:38

I called 101 in similar situationa and they phoned the owner who came and moved car

Purplerain16 · 24/08/2019 09:38

Just seen your post re taxi.

Just keep knocking on doors. Can you ring DN and let her know you'll be there ASAP?

Apileofballyhoo · 24/08/2019 09:38

Good luck, OP.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 24/08/2019 09:40

No new suggestions. I just want to watch what happens...

Sodamncaughtinthemiddle · 24/08/2019 09:42

Knock on doors
Recruit some muscley people to move the car.
Such a rude thing to do

QuinionsRainbow · 24/08/2019 09:43

I'd like to think that the poice don't know my phone number! How would they find out?

KUGA · 24/08/2019 09:44

Push the car and hopefully an alarm will go off.
Then go door knocking if that fails.

MrsMc2019 · 24/08/2019 09:45

I agree with trying to set the Car's alarm off or failing that knock on doors.

MumW · 24/08/2019 09:46

They don't - they'd contact the DVLA.

Hiphopopotamus · 24/08/2019 09:47

We’ve already let DN know - unfortunately we can’t get to her until we get the car out. I just wanted to mention that bit to illustrate that we really needed to leave at the time we set and that it is impacting us and her!

I’ve spoken to one neighbour who has told me a few houses I can discount!

Accidentally smash a window, fall through said window and knock the hand break off? I'm always amazed by how clumsy I can be when I'm furious Grin
