I'm sat outside an office block ready to go in for an interview!

I haven't interviewed in 10 years!

I'm physically shaking! And will probably throw up as soon as I open my mouth!

I can't do this!

Just wanted to stay, when you're 'rusty' interview wise, it may likely take you a few of them to gain confidence and improve your technique.

Depends on the type of roles you're going for, but I've had to follow very prescriptive competency based interviews for my last couple of roles (public sector and financial services). In short there is a very specific format to answering questions to allow them to score you. It took me a while to learn how to get the most out of that format with my answers.

I know it feels horrid, but make sure you're asking for feedback after any unsuccessful interviews. Any constructive feedback on interview technique or any areas you weren't strong on, can help you improve for the next one.

Good luck, you'll get there x

A little secret for you....sometimes those interviewing you are feeling nervous also!

Sometimes what I do is pretend I’m acting and not being me. I just ‘act’ the role and kind of leave me out of it. Takes away the nerves.

I'm back home (with a glass of wine in hand) and think it went well (although I said that about the last one and didn't get the job 😂).

It was much more formal this time round and with a different interviewer.

I hope I came across as confident and employable and keen but we shall see.

I'm crossing everything for this one as I'm really excited for it!!

Enjoy the Wine! Good luck OP.

Good luck!

I’ve applied officially for a job for the first time in ten years too. If I get an interview, it’ll be my first ever in a foreign language.

I really hope you get it! Fingers crossed!

Good god. I thought that it was going to be something truly terrifying, like a spider!! I have just literally screamed the same thing. Hope it went ok though.

NC101010 I know this sounds odd but dont worry so much about the outcome - you cant control who else is interviewing; what experience they have and how well they might know the interviewer. All you can do is do yourself justice at the interview. Make sure you are prepared as to what the employer is looking for, communicate how your experience meets that need and why you would be a good part of the team. Do that enough times and you will get the job you want.
