DD hair disaster, urgent advice needed!

Oh christ this is awful. 15 years old, we started letting her dye her hair at 13 as long as it was black/brown/blonde/red etc and not crazy colours. She's been black, dark brown, red, and brown with a purple tinge which was her most recent colour about 3 months ago. She has always done it herself with a home dye kit and we've avoided any disasters up until now. She decided she wanted to go full on platinum blonde because that seems to be the thing right now and we're going on holiday on Sunday. She goes upstairs to do it and an hour later emerges in tears after drying her hair because it's orange. And god it really is awful, there are tinges of green and red in there. We are going abroad in 2 days and all of the hair salons are saying they can't get us in with such short notice but they'll call if they get a cancellation! Does anyone have any advice? I've bought her some chocolate brown hair dye (she won't go out) because I feel dark colours will cover it all up but I don't want to use it yet as I have no idea what I'm doing!

Don't put brown on it, it will go khaki green. You need to go pillar box red then the brown on top of that, or a very red brown dye at the very least. She's stripped out the red (despite it looking orange) so that needs to go back in to avoid green. That's if you need to do it yourself. A bleach bath then toner is the other option to go lighter but I wouldn't do that without olaplex - that's best done in a salon or it'll just break. Be careful of supermsrket box dyes. Can you get to a Sally's or similar? You want a really gentle developer, like a 10vol tonjust deposit without further damage ubtil she can see a professional.

Floralnomad · 23/08/2019 16:35

She can wear a hat and get it done by a hairdresser abroad if you can’t get seen before you go . I wouldn’t go putting anymore home kits on it , her hair must be absolutely ruined .

Excuse typos. Mobile and fat thumbs

BogglesGoggles · 23/08/2019 16:35

It takes a fewgoes to get from dark brown to blonde. Maybe cover it up with a washable dye for the time being?

Stressedout10 · 23/08/2019 16:36

Brown or black will cover it but do give her hair a good conditioner 1st

drinkygin · 23/08/2019 16:36

Argh! Do NOT let her out a choc brown dye on it over the top! Box dues are unpredictable at best and I’m amazed you’ve avoided disaster this long. Keep phoning and get her an appointment at a proper salon with a professional. There has to be more salons you can try? Or a mobile hairdresser?

CallMeOnMyCell · 23/08/2019 16:40

She may need a couple of box dyes to cover it in case it goes green after the first attempt.

Drpeppered · 23/08/2019 16:44

Try treatwell? There might be some salons near you that you don’t know about and you can search for a availability on specific dates

Cryalot2 · 23/08/2019 16:45

Ring and ask hairdresser for advice . Explain the situation to them.
Have a good holiday.

WrongKindOfFace · 23/08/2019 16:46

Do you have a branch of supercuts? You sit and wait for a cut or colour, but they’ll probably want to do a patch test so chances are it won’t get done before you fly. However some of them are open Sundays.

herculepoirot2 · 23/08/2019 16:46

Wasn’t this exact thread deleted yesterday?

Champagne791 · 23/08/2019 16:46

My sister did something similar as a teen, it will be a funny story to look back on in the future. If I remember correctly, she bleach washed her hair, until it was stripped it of all the colour then used toner. It was a long process.

If it was my child, I’d be ringing up salons far away until I found out with room just to get it sorted.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 23/08/2019 16:47

Wash hair in ketchup to tone down the green (had to do it myself as a teen) before trying anything else

AnnonniMoose · 23/08/2019 16:51

I recently put a colour stripper on my hair as I've decided to go grey gracefully. I forgot that I had previous bleached streaks in my hair (covered by many layers of colour) which of course went bright orange.

I covered it with a 24-wash Nice & Easy Ash brown and it covered all the orange beautifully. It's also been more than 24 washes and the colour is still there with no orange.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 23/08/2019 16:51

Jerome russell Bblond maximum blonding kit is the only one I have found to turn my hair proper light blond if she still wants to go blond. Silver toner to tone down gingery bits

LynetteScavo · 23/08/2019 16:54

I'd get her in for a patch test tomorrow so she can have it professionally sorted out after your holiday, and then leave it for now. She'll just have to tie it up. Buy her some scarf headbands from H&M.

Imoan123 · 23/08/2019 16:55

You need to put red hair colour on first then the chocolate. The red will counteract the green tinge.

Livebythecoast · 23/08/2019 17:02

What is her natural hair colour ?
My DD 15 is ash blonde naturally and wanted that grey/silver look. Hairdressers said she would have to go beach blonde first (to strip it back) then do silver dye, they quoted a ridiculous amount so we got a box dye, dyed it 'bleach blonde' but it went yellow so the next day we put the silver one on (with a toner) and it's gone a lovely silver colour. She then uses silver shampoos and conditioners to stop the yellow look.
It really depends on what her natural colour was but I'd be reluctant to put a dark colour on. Equally I'm not a hairdresser so I don't know.
I hope you get it sorted but whatever she decides be careful in a swimming pool cos of the chlorine.
Even if you can't get an appointment, ask a hairdresser for advice. Like pp have said, they have to do a patch test which would take too long anyway.
Good luck!

Sorry op no help and a high jack but did the hreen hair colour threaf get deleted??

If she is going on holiday no one will see her.
Jats scarves and things .

ChrisPrattsFace · 23/08/2019 17:08

Find an ash blonde to cover it, I always use the garnish ones, they’re good. Also get a John Frieda silver toner for straight after. They’re both available at Tesco.
This happened when I was about 19 and I dyed mine from dark reddy brown to the blonde.
My hair was quiet dry for a while and needed trimmed and a few hair masks but as someone who dyed it regularly, I never had any problems!?

Notopel · 23/08/2019 17:10

Don’t put a dark over it if she still wants to go lighter. It’ll will be a right pain to get the warmth back out.

I’d try a toner first to neutralise the yellow. And then if it’s still awful do another lift tomorrow (if condition allows), and put a dark ashy blonde toner on.

I’ve been platinum blonde and it’s really hard even for experienced stylists to get it cool enough if you’ve got naturally warm tones in your hair.

Notopel · 23/08/2019 17:18

A box red, overlayed with a black will do the job though if she just wants to fix it.

Try your local Facebook groups for a hairdresser. I’m sure someone will be able to fit your daughter in.

HeyMonkey · 23/08/2019 17:25

Do not put brown on it!!!!

It'll go green. She's either going to have to go bright red, or red then brown. Don't put brown on orange.

TriciaH87 · 23/08/2019 17:29

In regards to the green I was told by my hair dresser if ever happens put tomato Ketchup on the hair wait ten mins then wash out apparently that's what salon would do. In regards to the colour purple would never go to blonde. What you need to do is try use a toner now and then put a brown or black on it for the time being. After holiday you will need a trip to the hair dresser before she colours it again to sort it out
