posting for traffic. Hoping a teacher out there might help.

What do the two large numbers mean printed next to GCSE results. I have no idea.

I wondered this with my son's results too!

Itsagrandoldteam · 22/08/2019 17:46

it's the actual mark they got

hyacinthine · 22/08/2019 17:47

Total UMS marks for all of the papers in that subject. It's mainly useful if you're wanting a remark, as you can compare that number to the grade boundary. Excellent results btw, congratulations!

JuniperOakPark · 22/08/2019 17:48

It is the overall mark for that exam. So if it was maths, it would be the combined total for all 3 papers, English would be 2 papers for Lit 2 papers for Lang.

If you know what exam board they used for that exam, go onto their website and the grade boundaries are there. Each paper is listed so for Ds1 maths papers were OCR and out of 100 each, so the total was 300 and he has his mark out of the 300 printed on the sheet they got given today.

Hope that helps. There is a support thread for GCSEs in the secondary education section.

And congratulations on your child's results they are incredible!

But why add it next to these results but not the others.
It’s boggling me.

Just saw your post Juniper. Thank you.
Must say I’m a little bit tearful today. She worked really hard!

Because some boards do not publish raw marks or UMS. Ds took GCSE's last year, he got his marks for Edexcel exams but not AQA.

Ironoaks · 22/08/2019 17:52

UMS are printed on the results slip for some subjects / exam boards but not for others.

Impressive results btw.

PookieDo · 22/08/2019 17:57

My DD only had 3 sets of raw marks posted. Interesting to see she was only 4 marks from a level 5 maths.

If you go to AQA or whatever the exam was, there is a PDF which will tell you what the boundaries are

mathsbot.com/gcse/boundaries

Use the filter to find maths boundaries for all boards....

Great results!
