Catching up on Teen Mom UK and watching the bit about Charlie telling Shannon it was weird to still be breastfeeding her 2.5 year old.

Is it really that weird?

I wonder why ppl find bfing so threatening?

Well it clearly isn’t the actual breastmilk itself....
It must be the packaging it comes in!

Uptheduffy · 25/08/2019 23:03

As a baby, my dc had breastmilk, wore nappies, had a dummy, had a favourite toy, loved cuddles. As a toddler my dc had breastmilk, wore nappies, had a dummy, had a favourite toy, loved cuddles.
In what way was I babying him? As a preschooler he gave up most of these, as he was ready.

ItsABubbleParty · 25/08/2019 23:42

I think really unless you've experienced it then you can't have a full understanding.

It can be beautiful and moving, it can be annoying as fuck. My boobs are my little ones comfort blanket, even though we stopped feeding before 4, they are still snuggled if tired/upset/has missed me. It's lovely.

Purpleartichoke · 25/08/2019 23:44

Not strange at all.

madcatladyforever · 25/08/2019 23:44

bitty!

Disagreeing or having a different opinion on EBF doesn't constitute a fear of feeling threatened.

I don't actually see women BF toddlers in public...perhaps they feel uncomfortable with it.

I do think it also depends on your lifestyle and the type of career if any that you have.

A mother who works full time or who has a job that involves travelling a lot or who works longer hours, would be less likely to do this.

Very ignorant post. For a start no one is saying toddlers should be EBF. Also thinking something is weird or creepy does imply a threat.
Most toddlers are only being BF 2 or maybe 3 times a day hence no need to do it in public. Also they feed very quickly eg. 5 minutes morning and evening. So blink and you will miss it.
As BF a toddler is usually only at either end of the day and can even skip days, it's ideal for mums who work - it can make up a bit for leaving the child/provide comfort for a child adjusting to childcare

are you suggesting toddler's therefore shouldn't be BF in public? Why not? what's the problem?

GPatz · 26/08/2019 07:03

'A mother who works full time or who has a job that involves travelling a lot or who works longer hours, would be less likely to do this'

Fed in the morning before work and, if back in time that day, in the evening after work.

GPatz · 26/08/2019 07:06

'I don't actually see women BF toddlers in public...perhaps they feel uncomfortable with it'.

Well that was true in my case. I was sadly expecting judgement. I can do without that.

ethelfleda · 26/08/2019 07:07

Another one who works full time and still breastfeeds her toddler here.

SnuggyBuggy · 26/08/2019 07:23

Mines small for her age so I might get away with public BF but I just don't need to now

Goodlookingcreature · 26/08/2019 07:28

Feeding until the child is 4 is creepy imho. Do you have breasts resembling spaniels ears?

SnuggyBuggy · 26/08/2019 07:31

Charming

When do the kids go back to school again? Hmm

It's been nice to read about so many of you who have continued breastfeeding for older children. Those who haven't been close enough to see a breastfeeding relationship up close obviously don't really understand it.

"Creepy" means causing a feeling of fear. How very strange to be frightened of boobs, counselling might help you?

ThePolishWombat · 26/08/2019 08:08

I’m actually surprised it took 10 pages before someone popped up commenting on the physical appearance on breastfeeding mothers Hmm
@Goodlookingcreature
All that comment does is show that you have absolutely zero knowledge of how the female body actually works Hmm Congratulations, you’ve made yourself worthy of the special bank holiday dickhead medal Biscuit

BarrenFieldofFucks · 26/08/2019 08:15

And even if I did (I don't btw), who cares?

speakout · 26/08/2019 08:19

Yawn.

MissB83 · 26/08/2019 08:56

The few people I know who have breastfed long term are clearly doing it becuase they struggle to let go of the baby stage.

This is so laughably inaccurate. Breastfeeding a toddler is not much fun! But I'm not doing it for me...

Totally agree. I have met hundreds of women breastfeeding toddlers- it is very challenging.

NotSoThinLizzy · 26/08/2019 09:16

My DS fell and split his eyebrow open at 20 months he needed paper stitches but any time a nurse got near him he would freak out. Cue the boob sat mostly happily getting the paper stitches on him. If it wasnt for the BF it would've been so much more stressful. It's an amazing tool to use. Theres no chance I could force DS to feed if he didn't want to.

Oysterbabe · 26/08/2019 09:16

I work and breastfeed my child morning and evening. I'll feed him while we're out and about if he wants, which he usually doesn't, the world is much too interesting to waste time feeding.
