To think my washing machine

is taking the piss. So I thought I'd do a quick freshen up wash this morning of some clothes I've had in storage, and thought I'd be economical and efficient and put them on a 30Ëš handwash setting with a new blouse I like (so am trying hard not to shrink). Anyway so much for the quick wash because over two hours later it's still showing no signs of reaching the end of it's cycle. Wtf surely it should be quicker than my normal 40Ëš wash which takes an hour? I've got to go work in half an hour and will be so pissed off if I don't get to peg it out before I go. WIBU to risk the, at best moody indignation or worst wrath of the teenagers and phone them, waking them from their slumber at around 10ish ( crack of dawn in teenage time) and tell them to hang it out or is that a bit drastic do ya think? Confused

Oh teenager1 has just got up and is racing to get ready for work, so that's him out of the equation then. Anything to get out of a chore that one Hmm Wink

My machine the 60 wash is quicker than the 40 wash by about 20 minutes. It confuses my brain so much. I am not a scientist but surely it takes less time to heat to 40 than it does 60. If someone can explain it I will be grateful.

I believe it's because the lower temperature wash "churns" more. The wash is supposed to be as effective at removing dirt but more through motion. The higher temp just nukes all the dirt.

Well that makes absolutely no sense to me Trafalger. The variation of cycle times on different washing machines is mental! As for the extra churns honeylulu I don't need them so they can bloody well stick them.Back to a 40Ëš wash for everything for me.

My machine lies to me - it'll say eg 10mins left, and then I'll wait, go back and it'll say 20mins left. Lying, cheating technology 🤥

My washing machine has just been put on a 40 degree 38 minute cycle. It actually takes 43 minutes. It lies!!!!

I have a machine that actually weighs the clothes once they are wet and adjusts the cycle time accordingly. If it's slightly heavier than the manufacturers "average*" load then it adds extra time.

*My machine has a 9kg max and the manufacturers average is 4kg....My average load is about 8kg.

Foam suppression feature when it happens to me.

Machine detects foam and carries on rinsing for blooming ages.

I'm not convinced it's actually foam though, more likely a bit of gunk stuck in the wrong place.

I give it a 60 degree cleaning wash with a whole bottle of cheap distilled white vinegar. Then I bung loads of extra water in through the drawer on the rinse to get all the residue gone.

Uses extra water on the cleaning wash but saves water in the long runs by it not deciding to give itself a load of extra rinses so often when a washing load is in.
