A friend of around 10 years sent me a link to a sex toy proclaiming it was named after my 5 yr old Dd.! Sent reply saying was disappointed she's sent me that as v poor taste. Her response"don't bother contacting me again as you've obviously had a sense of humour bypass"

What do you need perspective on?

FlioFlopsAndIceCream · 21/08/2019 18:57

ShockHmm

Pipandmum · 21/08/2019 18:58

You’ve both overreacted. She was trying to be funny and you should have just rolled your eyes and replied with a sarcastic ‘ha ha’ or ignored it. But her reaction to you was ott too - she should have rolled her eyes in turn and said sorry didn’t mean to offend, then you could both moved on.

RB68 · 21/08/2019 18:58

you don't need a sense of perspective she has done you a favour

Mamalicious16 · 21/08/2019 18:58

Whether my reaction was BU-Am v v peed off she would send me something like that. Wondered what other people's reactions would have been ( from a parents perspective)

She made a joke, you took it the wrong way. Her response suggests it's not the first time three has been friction with this friend.

NeedingAdvice29 · 21/08/2019 18:59
Hmm
Namechangeforthiscancershit · 21/08/2019 18:59

I don't think it's in very poor taste is it?

I think you've both overreacted, and the friendship has run its course

NeedingAdvice29 · 21/08/2019 19:02

Anyone send me a pic of something sex related and referenced my young child I’d cut ties with them. What a fucked up thing to do

pictish · 21/08/2019 19:03

Erm...I dunno, I’d think it inappropriate I suppose but would assume it was intended to amuse? I would probably try to ignore it as much as possible. Maybe just send a Confused type emoji by way of response.
I wouldn’t bring it up again I don’t think.

kidsatuniemptynester · 21/08/2019 19:04

Is your child called Rabbit?

Petrichor11 · 21/08/2019 19:08

It’s really weird that she thought to associate your young child with a sex toy, even as a joke. I don’t think it’s overreacting to tell her you find it in poor taste.

If I made a joke that upset a friend, I would apologise, which I think most people would. Rather than blame you for not finding it funny!

dollydaydream114 · 21/08/2019 20:04

Her joke was certainly a bit crass but personally I would have either ignored it or said 'I think I'll just pretend I haven't seen that' or something. But then I don't think I've got any friends who are that different from me in terms of what we find funny, really.

The pair of you obviously aren't at all compatible, so neither of you have really lost out here. Just move on.

Idea86 · 21/08/2019 20:47

Bit weird to relate a sex toy to a child.
I don't mind weird, but to have even 'sex' and 'child' in the same sentence other than to explain where babies come from, is reallllly fucked up.
I don't think your response OTT at all.
