Refused to pay plumber

Have a cracked undermount sink that needs changing so called a plumbing company to come out. Explained I wanted undermount sink removed and replaced before booking. Was quoted a price of 400.

After changing their arrival time three times (they kept moving time back and forth) tradesman shows up, looks at sink, says he's never done this job before and needs to google it. Not sure if he can do it or not!

I pointed out I explained what I wanted on the phone and was expecting someone who had seen this issue before to show up not someone who was going to google it. Tradesman went back in his van, called his office and came back and quoted me 1000 for the job! I told him to leave and I refused to pay the call out fee of 45 for a guy who essentially showed up and went 'I don't know'.

WIBU?

YANBU sounds like a bunch of cowboys. I'd expect to pay no more than £150 for a local plumber to change a sink (excluding the cost of the new sink)

YANBU!

As long as you explained clearly beforehand what you required then that’s nonsense!

If they couldn’t do it they should have said so on the phone.

YANBU. I wouldn't pay either. Their fault for the work not being done and it being a waste of everyone's time.

I did explain clearly what I wanted. I can do over mount sinks myself but am uncertain about removing undermounts from their silicone and explained all that. Asked if they knew what to do. They sent someone with zero knowledge of the job.

Normally I understand paying a call out fee even if they don't do much but in this case I refused.
