Hi all
As above really, bf in family court tomorrow 60 miles away for directions meeting. I can't go in same car as my ex is picking up ds at same time as he needs to leave. I want to support him. I know i can't go in. Anyone know how long directions meeting lasts? AIbu to go?
Thanks!

You have a valid reason not to go. You'll be supporting him whether you're there in person or not.

If you're not sure flip a coin. What ever the outcome I think you're already being a very supportive girl friend.

What has he said on the matter? Does he really want you there or is he ok with you staying at home?

Thanks 😊

He said he wants me there but also feels bad about my driving so far & is happy for me to stay at home - we are both undecided!

I wouldn't drive 60 miles to wait outside for someone just to have to drive home again alone. It would be different if you were travelling there together, but it would just be a waste of fuel to go if you can't even go in.

First directions hearings are usually allocated 30 minutes of court time. Things can take longer if there are protracted negotiations and/or it looks as though it might be possible to reach an agreement. But usually these appointments are quite short. Unless your BF is exceptionally nervous and has really expressed a need for you to be there I would not go. The presence of the new partner in the Court building is often seen as unhelpful and might work to against your BF (if there is any prospect of settlement other people present can get in the way of this).

Do you mean bf - as in boyfriend or best friend ?

How long have you guys been together ?

Thank you, that's really helpful. If its only 30 mins there is really no point my going.
