To Really Hate This Word.

Hollanda40 · 20/08/2019 14:41

There's lots of words I quite dislike,
That really make me cringe...
"Panties" and "gusset" are right up there
And so, of course, is "minge".

Children aren't kids, that's baby goats,
And I don't really call DH "hubs"...
I call both my children by their proper names
(I also hate "bae", "boo" or "bubs").

You've now seen my most disliked words,
So now I hate to foist
On you, the worst one of them ALL...
It can only be bloody "moist"!!!

😀

Just a little rhyme to cheer you all up on a Tuesday afternoon :)

Plating up
Hubby, hubs
The letter H pronounced Haitch
Hun
And as a poster has said When people say everythink somethink nothink.

Crochetymum · 20/08/2019 18:20

Pots instead of the dishes, this has got me going

GibbonLover · 20/08/2019 18:24

Ooh, you've reminded me of another one Crochety - pot, referring to a cast. As in 'Dave has broken his leg so he's got a pot'.

MrsDesireeCarthorse · 20/08/2019 18:29

Haters. I also hate "I hate that this happened." It's I hate IT that this happened!
Haters. Fuck off!

Anotheruser02 · 20/08/2019 18:41

I can't take to 'movie', I watch films because I'm English.

Hollanda40 · 20/08/2019 18:43

Pronouncing "t" as "c"...

Hospical, boccle...

Pacific instead of specific

Should of, could of...

Lol I'm easily irritated!! I should take a Biscuit!

Flamingjune123

How else do you pronounce H Blush

Wavyheaded · 20/08/2019 19:02

'Adorkable' - often used by grown woman acting like a 'quirky little girlie' - so cringe arrghhhh

KB197 · 20/08/2019 19:05

I hate the term ‘hun’.

onanothertrain · 20/08/2019 19:09

Super instead of very or really - where did that come from?
Cuppa
Tasty
Yum
Nom
Supper

onanothertrain · 20/08/2019 19:10

Oh yeah plating up. That annoys me too.

Kvothe · 20/08/2019 19:12

Moist
Belly
Mucky

stayathomer · 20/08/2019 19:12

Oh plating up too!!! And pan fried, lightly toasted, anything that tries to make food sound poster than it is!!

Herefortheduration · 20/08/2019 19:13

I hate people who hate the word moist, it's just a bloody word, get off the babe wagon!

Herefortheduration · 20/08/2019 19:13

**band wagon, ha ha

Alleycat1 · 20/08/2019 19:14

Could make list. Nom and Hun would be at the top.

Siameasy · 20/08/2019 19:15

Bloody pamphlet! I didn’t know I hated it but I do! It conjures up a fete in a church hall c1982 and the musty smell of old books

flamingjune123 · 20/08/2019 19:18

Pardon its 'Aitch' not Haitch

Thinkle · 20/08/2019 19:27

Literally any time that people say the word ‘literally’ in literally every sentence they say. I’m sure this gripe it’s been covered in literally every post on this page.
Drives me insane (metaphorically speaking of course)

RightYesButNo · 20/08/2019 19:29

Totally agree, @Hollanda40, with “should of, could of” and any case using “of” that should use “have.”

Also, can anyone explain the purpose of holibobs to me? I’ve never understood it. It’s not any shorter than the word holidays, so what is the point, besides being supremely annoying?

LucieFurr · 20/08/2019 19:32

Kids
Meal
Toddler (don't know why I hate it so much)
Buggy (for a pushchair)
Picky bits or even worse, picky tea
Nom

CatteStreet · 20/08/2019 19:32

'Aitch' and 'haitch' are equally valid regional variations.

Agree with 'chores' upthread.

'Pander', as in 'stop pandering to him' ('he' often being a very small child who needs reassurance/a parent's closeness at night, for example)

'Getting on the [property] ladder'.

'Choices', used about someone's life circumstances. Especially when combined with 'lifestyle'.

'Alone time'. It's 'time alone'. Descriptivist as I am, and I can see how it's evolved (from 'me time', 'family time' etc.), that one annoys me.

'Flying', as used on here for a child doing well academically/a dh getting on in his career.

'Kerb appeal'. Sounds dodgy, tbh.

Hollanda40 · 20/08/2019 19:33

I’ve always hated moist. I couldn’t even articulate why when I was younger...it just grossed me out. So my DB used to say it just to annoy me!! Believe me, I’ve hated that word since way before it wa# “fashionable” to hate it!!

“Tummy ache” in adults winds me up. Stomach ache, you have stomach ache, you’re not 4 years old!!

Choo Choo train, moo cow, woof doggie, etc wind me up.

I love the CBeebies show “Waffle the Wonder Dog”, but cannot get past the theme song which calls him “Waffle Doggie”!!! It’s my DD’s absolute favourite though, so I’ll put up with it for her lol!!!
