Chicken pox

Our youngest ds3 came down with chicken pox on Friday 😔 , we also have an older ds who hasn't had it yet. Odds are he will more than likely get it, the symptoms don't show for upto 21 days from exposure. Unfortunately they are back to school in a couple of weeks, fine for the youngest he should be better by then. How will I know if our oldest is contagious if the spots haven't appeared, would it be unreasonable to keep him off school just in case. Wouldn't want him to spread it round the school. I hope that makes sense.

You wont know. It is very contagious but some children do miss it. Do not keep him off "just in case" All chicken pox outbreaks wizz through schools whatever. just keep him off from the first spots to the last one scabbed. Usuall get it 14 days. You cant guess if he will get it

I'd ask school. Unless there is someone in your childs class who is severely immuno compromised they will probably say to come in, I dont think they will want their attendance records reduced just in case a child might be ill.
