To ask how much deep sleep you get?

Posting on here for traffic.

I have recently purchased a smart watch, which tracks my heart rate and sleep. I know these are never 100% accurate, but after months of feeling like I just don't sleep well I thought I'd give it a go.

On average it says I'm getting 53 minutes deep sleep per night and 5-7 hours of light sleep.

How much deep sleep is normal? How much do you get if you track your sleep?

About the same. 45-1hr per day. 1.5hr REM, 3 light sleep and the rest I’m tossing and turning resulting in 5-6 hr of “sleep” per day. Very bad but I’m going thru the meno.

A poor nights sleep would be 15 minutes deep sleep. A decent night would be 60 minutes. If I record an hour and a half deep sleep I know I am going to be on top of the world that day.

I've not used any gizmo but I generally get about 4 hours 'solid' sleep from 10-2 then after that much lighter and disturbed sleep, just dozing and waking every 20-30 mins.

For one, I wouldn't trust all devices. I have tried three different ones, a cheap one from China, the Huawei watch and the fitbit. The first two were totally innacurate, the fitbit is spot on.

Like many poor sleepers who track their sleep carefully, I was convinced that the reason I woke up feeling lightheaded, struggling to get through the day, experienced brain fog and struggle to do endurance training was because of plnot getting enough deep sleep. And it is right because I do feel the difference between getting 5 days over 1h a night and 5 nights getting less.

I was convinced that my OH who sleeps like a baby, wakes up refreshed and is full of energy during the day must be getting plenty of deep sleep, but he borrowed my old fitbit tracker and to my surprise, he gets less deep sleep than I do and sleep less hours in total.

So whereas I do believe that there is a link bwteeen deep sleep and functionality during the day, I think we are all different in how much of it we need to cope and there are other factors that influence us getting the right amount and quality of sleep.

If I get more deep sleep than awake time then I'm winning, both are usually around an hour - but I do have 2 small DC!

Bubsworth · 20/08/2019 20:05

I tend to get 3-4 hours of (usually broken) sleep every night, I doubt any of it is deep as I am always completely shattered.

YeOldeTrout · 20/08/2019 21:12

About 16% of my total is deep sleep. That is pretty typical value, or even high (I get a lot of exercise). I don't worry about deep sleep, but I fear my REM sleep is quite low (unhealthily low). And there is feck all I can do about it.

I get about 6 hrs 20min/night on avg.
Of which 15% is REM, or 57 minutes.
Quite low compared to other Fitbit users !!

BertieBotts · 20/08/2019 21:37

I used to track it using my phone and I was getting 3-4 hours a night. How accurate that is I have no idea.

I don't track it now because I have a baby so it would be completely loopy.

furrybadger · 20/08/2019 21:48

My Fitbit record mine last night I had 1 hour 24 mins deep sleep and 6 hours 8 mins light sleep 💤

PoppingOneOutIn2020 · 20/08/2019 21:49

Not EfuckingNough.

18 weeks pregnant and my eyes want to close but my brain says no.

RedSheep73 · 20/08/2019 21:54

I seem to average about a third deep sleep, however long I sleep

Birdtablegreen · 20/08/2019 21:57

Often under an hour a night according to my FitBit - but on weekends it can be about 1 hour 30 or more. I presume that’s very low but I think I am just generally a very light and dreamy sleeper!! Everything wakes me up!

Birdtablegreen · 20/08/2019 21:58

Last night for example 50 mins deep sleep and 5 hours light sleep with the rest REM and about an hour ‘awake’....yikes

AllInTentsAndPorpoises · 20/08/2019 22:02

Last night:
31 mins Deep
1h 32 REM
3h 38 Light
1h Awake

BenjiB · 20/08/2019 22:10

I don’t sleep much, go to bed around 2am and up at 6.30/7am ish. I sleep well though.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 20/08/2019 22:22

On average 70% light and 30% deep.

loobyloo1234 · 20/08/2019 23:10

Average about 5-8% deep sleep a night. It was starting to get me down but I’ve got used to the app not telling me what I want to know now. Maybe I just love light sleep? 😊
