… to wish people would stop ‘popping’ everywhere?

‘Pop to the shops’, ‘pop upstairs’ ‘pop out’, ‘pop in’… stop bloody popping! You can ‘go’ and ‘walk’ and all sorts of other verbs. When people say ‘pop’ I imagine them smugly teleporting with a little wink and a little bell sound and it’s infuriating. Sometimes I imagine the teleport going wrong and the popper ending up stuck halfway through the wall dying an agonising gory death to calm myself down.

I'm a popper. Nothing wrong with it.

messolini9 · 19/08/2019 22:12

I just wish everyone would stop turning around when they are talking to people.

Grin Grin Grin
Yeah, the dizzy-making feckers.

littlemama18 · 19/08/2019 22:12

My friend is from Canada and it's his favourite term from the UK😂 he had never heard of it before but uses it all the time now!

FiveLittlePigs · 19/08/2019 22:12

I'll nip round rather than pop round.
I whack dinner on.

Wink
Gingerbreadsonme · 19/08/2019 22:13

I love to pop, also to whack (as in whack the kettle on, actually that’s more of an order as in “DH whack the kettle on”)

Gingerbreadsonme · 19/08/2019 22:14

Cross-post with FiveLittlePigs 😂

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/08/2019 22:14

fruity I nip too. I hate it when people (MIL) “pop in” with no notice.

FrogOfFrogHall · 19/08/2019 22:16

I very much thought this was going to be a complaint about windy bottoms from the op title!
Anyway yabu I love popping and people who pop.

Elision · 19/08/2019 22:16

Ooh I think I like ‘whack’. It has a lovely frisson of violence that definitely appeals.

LuxuryWoman2018 · 19/08/2019 22:17

I whack dinner on, pop to the shops, ping off emails and sometimes...and you’ll hate me have a picky tea 😊

Cassilis · 19/08/2019 22:18

What about stick on?

Stick on a wash? I pity people trying to learn colloquial English!

Youseethethingis · 19/08/2019 22:20

Did Micky Flanagan single handedly bring “the pop” back to life?
“I’m not even Out. I only Popped Out. Now look at me - I’m Out Out!” Grin

Cassilis · 19/08/2019 22:21

YANBU I can see why it’s annoying but pop can be useful. ‘I’ll pop in for a bit’ is the modern ‘I’ll come and visit with you.’

Fudgenugget · 19/08/2019 22:22

My dh is a Sarf Londoner and his common saying is, "I'm (effing) off to...". I do say pop or nip Confused. I have also caught the saying, "Let's bounce" as a way of urging people to get going which really gets my family's nerves. I try and sound cool and fail, daily...

Siameasy · 19/08/2019 22:23

Was going to say stick a wash on, stick dinner on
Pop sounds so wet
Whack is too violent. Stick is a nice middle ground

Fruityb · 19/08/2019 22:23

Oh yes I ping anything technological - texts, emails etc.

I chuck washing on.

Siameasy · 19/08/2019 22:25

I swear it’s the English obsession with not appearing too earnest if I remember Watching The English correctly (ages since I read it). Pop stick whack ping all suggest you don’t care that much. Taking anything seriously is taboo.

Shockers · 19/08/2019 22:26

Pop and nip are interchangeable here. Occasionally, I even go off piste and drop, when visiting.

I definitely stick things in the oven, rather than whacking them though.

Nicolastuffedone · 19/08/2019 22:26

I’m a popper and a nipper!

Oysterbabe · 19/08/2019 22:26

I pop to the shops sometimes, when I'm going quickly for something specific. I often wander to the shops once the kids are in bed, a relaxed and enjoyable trip during which I'll browse the middle aisles.

PrettyShiningPeople · 19/08/2019 22:27

I pop to the loo all the time Blush

Sparklingbrook · 19/08/2019 22:28

IF someone says they will 'pop in' the you know they aren't stopping long. Result.

FastAway · 19/08/2019 22:29

It’s the chucking and slinging and throwing I don’t like. “I just throw some beans in, sling some salmon on top and throw it in the oven”. Well don’t. Just put the stuff in.

I even saw a poster the other day who described putting a tumble dryer in as chucking some work surface somewhere and then slinging a tumble dryer on top. I was imagining a crazed DIYer barrelling around the house like a lunatic.

shinyblackdog · 19/08/2019 22:31

I hate popping, hopping and jumping (pop to the shops, hop on the bed (favourite of medical professionals), jump in the car. I also hate being out and about. Personally, I'm just out.

Devonishome1 · 19/08/2019 22:32

Oh dear...I pop everywhere!😆
