The knives are out for the royal family

It may be deserved in some cases, however it would seem the gloves are off as far as the media are concerned. They have lived high on the hog for centuries so what is new?

Am scratching my head here is it shoot the royal family season or a smoke and mirrors exercise designed to distract us from something more important??

I would hate to be in the PR business with the RF just now.

Their conduct is not defensible. Their smug preaching about the environment and how much they are eco warriors and then their blatant refusal to practice what they preach is just one example of why they are so unpopular. I think they are all as bad as each other but Ginge and his pushy wife are particularly abhorrent. I loathe that they all live in the lap of unbothered luxury on the back of the taxpayer. I loathe the visible profligate spending on their security and their apartments at Kensington Palace and yet more spending on their home at Frogmore. Their ridiculous insistence on "privacy" and yet still courting media attention at every turn. If they hate being Royal so much and want to be private citizens then they should become private citizens but then all taxpayer funded support needs to stop.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/08/2019 17:53

Charles has been hypocritically lecturing about the environment for years. I’ve never seen anyone ask for an apology from him

I agree in principle, but doesn't it depend who's asking? Certainly he's had endless criticism from the public for his nauseating hypocrisy, but as for anyone close to him suggesting he apologise - forget it

No doubt the types who work for him wish to continue in their jobs - though never ask me why - and there are just too many reports of him chewing the carpet throwing a tantrum should anyone dare to voice the slightest disagreement

I think it is a mistake to pay much heed to speeches made by the royals. They live in a different universe to the rest of us. There are and have been actors, singers, who also live like this. They are patently deluded, hire people to do their PR then make their lives impossible. Yet still the staff keep coming. They really are the type of people you would not want anyone you cared about to come into their orbit.

I'm not too fussed about what H&M get up to. Let them preach at conferences and post syrupy messages on Instagram to their hearts' content. They aren't doing any harm. They just aren't doing any good either.

IcedPurple · 21/08/2019 19:53

This aged well, didn't it?

*But it turns out the Prince is actually not high maintenance at all. In fact, there's only usually one thing on his agenda when he checks into a hotel, and that's whether or not it's environmentally friendly.

In a recent interview, Harry's friend, Argentinian polo player Nacho Figueras described the recent trip to Rome they took together. As Prince Harry checked into the hotel, he wasn't concerned about how nice the view was, or whether there was a soft enough towel dressing gown. Instead, he was concerned about the hotel's use of plastic.

"He was there and we were at the hotel where we spent the night before the game. He talked to a person and said, 'This morning I got my coffee and I saw that you have a plastic thing on the coffee. And then I also sent my shirt and I got my shirt in a big plastic bag'," Nacho revealed.

"That's who he is. That’s who they are," he added, referring to Meghan. "No plastic."*

I wonder how many plastic coffee cup tops it would take to make up for the carbon emitted during even one of Haz' 4 private jet trips? It would surely be well into the millions.

But hey, go ahead and lecture some poorly paid hotel worker, while having your 'celebrity' mutual back scratchers do their tacky thing. Just don't think we're not going to notice.

So inspirational. ‘The Prince of Conservation’ is what the next generation will call him.

Oh my god 😂😫 a bit of plastic vs a private jet! It’s not even close! He’s so dim.

Pamplemousecat · 21/08/2019 20:45

He’s not averse to plastic though. His wife seems to be made of it.

QualCheckBot · 21/08/2019 20:52

I know, Pamplemousecat. The quality of the work is amazing, but she does look considerably different from what she used to.

Pamplemousecat · 21/08/2019 20:53

@Qualcheckbot yes and also plastic persona!

IcedPurple · 21/08/2019 20:56

Oh my god 😂😫 a bit of plastic vs a private jet! It’s not even close! He’s so dim.

And complaining about the sheet of plastic over the dry-cleaning delivered to him by some poor hotel worker! Talk about first world problems! How about washing your own shirt in the hotel sink, like the rest of us do when we're travelling? Problem solved!

SheStoopsToConker · 21/08/2019 21:00

Does she? I'm sure we all look different to what we did 20 years ago.

SheStoopsToConker · 21/08/2019 21:09

Really? That is hardly what I'd call "considerably" different! Different angles, different lighting, different hair, different makeup.

QualCheckBot · 21/08/2019 21:10

Depends what they're trying to correct, and why SheStoops.

Hithere12 · 21/08/2019 21:14

And complaining about the sheet of plastic over the dry-cleaning delivered to him by some poor hotel worker!

Yes what an absolute prick. As if the hotel worker on minimum wage has any say on the materials used.

SheStoopsToConker · 21/08/2019 21:15

Maybe her nose is slightly different but she's not exactly turned into the Bride of Wildenstein! What do her looks have to do with it anyway? Criticise their environmental credentials (or lack thereof) by all means but descending to this kind of commentary is pointless and may well result in the thread being pulled.

MangoFeverDream · 21/08/2019 21:22

Please, both DOS and DOC have had work done, it’s not a big deal actually and they both look the better for it.

Winterlife · 21/08/2019 21:23

MM had a nose job and work done to her jaw. She was attractive before the work as well, Judy not “film ready”.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 21/08/2019 21:26

Do we care what work anyone's had done though? Especially in a career where it's commonplace and before marrying into the RF was on the cards?

MangoFeverDream · 21/08/2019 21:28

Do we care what work anyone's had done though

Not really I just hate the pearl clutching when it’s suggested a public figure had work done. So what? Usually it’s an improvement ( though occasionally not...)

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 21/08/2019 21:35

We Brits have very contradictory expectations of our Royals. We expect them to be above such vanity as cosmetic enhancements but then want to see them in forensic close up.

I hope they don't overdo it, I'd hate to see them looking like the cast of The Real Housewives of anywhere.

SheStoopsToConker · 21/08/2019 21:35

I'm guess both duchesses have had small tweaks (probably more along the lines of Botox/fillers than actual surgery) done but they're hardly "made of plastic".

Pamplemousecat · 21/08/2019 21:49

My reference initially was just a bad joke relating to her persona rather than looks to be honest.
