The knives are out for the royal family

It may be deserved in some cases, however it would seem the gloves are off as far as the media are concerned. They have lived high on the hog for centuries so what is new?

Am scratching my head here is it shoot the royal family season or a smoke and mirrors exercise designed to distract us from something more important??

I would hate to be in the PR business with the RF just now.

Oprah is no doubt going so say something impassioned in their defence soon too. Who else can they ask? maybe the Archbishop of Canterbury can tweet that he is praying for them. I heard the Dalai Lama was originally slated for the marriage sermon. Not sure how often he updates his insta but surely he can say something sympathetic (or a least off to fund the next PJ)

managedmis · 21/08/2019 13:03

All we need now is Gwyneth and Bono to step in and the smugfest will be complete.

Maybe Harry and meghan will do a sketch on the next comic relief slating themselves for using private jets

justasking111 · 21/08/2019 13:18

Our ancestors will be chuckling now if they could read this, back a few centuries if royalty visited it was for a long spell, they brought, their knights, guards, servants, horses, which all had to be fed and watered. Our ancestral royalty were mumpers extraordinaire.

I don't think much has changed op

All the fawning over and curtseying to people who are utterly no better than ourselves and in some (most) cases, a lot worse.

All these years and nothing has changed...

Pamplemousecat · 21/08/2019 14:13

These “slebs” should slowly back away from the Hazza and Megz if they value their careers.

Greenteawhisky · 21/08/2019 14:42

Keanu Reeves flies cattle class and gets the subway. He’s quite famous.

SheStoopsToConker · 21/08/2019 15:03

I heard the Dalai Lama was originally slated for the marriage sermon

Of course you did Hmm

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/08/2019 15:32

What would people like to happen to Andrew out if interest and how should the Queen be handling it?

How about a complete removal of public duties and the colossal privileges which go with his position?

As for how HM should be handling it, a rather more proactive approach might have been welcome but I'm wondering if her great age has something to do with this. She's always been notoriously hands off with the kids, but knowing she won't be around to see it much longer, maybe she just can't be bothered any more?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/08/2019 15:42

Jessica Mulroney now saying that our upset at Meghan and Harry’s “Eco fuck up killing the planet, one jet at a time” is driven by racism

Well yes, but when aspects of their behaviour become indefensible, it's all some supporters have got. Nobody denies that a minority really are motivated by racism, but if there's a chance of shutting down criticism by flinging the R word around indiscriminately, that's what will happen

Which reminds me - what happened to ghanagirl and her constant thread-wrecking accusations, derailments and endless deletions? Has she been banned?

Pamplemousecat · 21/08/2019 15:43

I think they should apologise in public to us for their recent actions and own their mistakes. That’d go down better than their rich besties shrieking abuse at the plebs, over the internet.

Pamplemousecat · 21/08/2019 15:45

@Puzzledandpissedoff do you know I was wondering the exact same thing! I’ve been expecting her to come storming on to the threads!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/08/2019 15:52

Let's not tempt fate, Pamplemousecat Wink

MN quite rightly delete anything which smacks of racism already, so it got a bit tiresome to see the endless attempts to cause a thread-deleting bunfight … good on them if they've finally put a stop to it

GlitchStitch · 21/08/2019 15:56

Of course you did

It was quite widely reported that they originally wanted the Dalai Lama for the sermon but that Justin Welby advised against it. No idea if it's true but it's certainly something that I've heard too.

SheStoopsToConker · 21/08/2019 16:15

Widely reported by the Sun and the Express...

Mrsjayy · 21/08/2019 16:15

I don't think the Sussexes need to apologise they just need to stop talking then we would all be happier Harry can't harp on about privacy then bump his gums about 2 children for ecoreasons and going to Nice on a private jet in the same bloody week.

airportnostalgia · 21/08/2019 16:18

Somebody is leaking H&M whereabouts nobody needs to know they are on holiday with uncle Elton and David do they?

GlitchStitch · 21/08/2019 16:20

Widely reported by the Sun and the Express...

Yes so whether it was true or not it's something the pp heard but your post implied they hadn't Confused

airportnostalgia · 21/08/2019 16:22

In Elton’s instagram post, I thought it was really despicable how he brought his friendship with Diana into it! You can support a late friend’s child in other ways than offering them freebies like that!

Mrsjayy · 21/08/2019 16:27

Elton is a drama Llamha though any excuse to mention how close he was to Diana.

LaurieMarlow · 21/08/2019 16:29

What specifically would they apologise for?

Have many celebs/royals apologised for their carbon footprint? Out of interest?

justasking111 · 21/08/2019 16:30

I can see why the rich have super yachts with heli pads and vehicles on board, it keeps the paparazzi away.

Times today: “Even after Epstein was convicted as a sex offender in 2008, they [Prince A and Epstein] continued to meet. The prince cut ties in 2011 after a photograph of them walking together in New York’s Central Park attracted criticism.”

Disgusting.

Pamplemousecat · 21/08/2019 16:33

@LaurieMarlow it’s the hypocrisy. They are preaching at us re environmental issues on the one hand but riding roughshod over that on the other. They are largely funded by the tax payer. They really need to just shut the hell up now. Also don’t doubt the whole sleb handwringing has been part of their dreadful PR machines’ dreadful attempts to make excuses.
