To consider a total change?

I'm a single mum to 3 children and work as a designer. I earn an ok amount of money but we still struggle each month to make ends meat. I'm debating changing career paths or at least trying to.

I'm considering the possibility of going into lecturing. I know I'd need an MA so I'd have to do this first, and then hopefully I'd work towards my PHD as an entry level lecturer. Am I crazy to even consider this? I've always been interested in teaching but couldn't stand the thought of having to teach things like maths (my idea of hell!)

Is it worth putting all that money and time into more education? I've got my degree but I feel like I'm at a cross roads and need to make some changes to give myself and the kids a more secure future. I'm 36 now so don't want to leave to until it's too late!

It's not so much a case of whether it's worth it - it's a case of whether the money is there to do it. I mean, you say you're already struggling to make ends meet, so where is the money for the MA and PhD actually going to come from?

Would you earn much more as an entry level lecturer than you would as a designer?
