Not really an about, but posting for traffic so I apologise in advance.

I’ve got friends coming tonight for Sunday dinner; I’ll need all of the plates I own. I’ve just this second realised that my lodger has two of them (along with a handful of forks and glasses - she uses my crockery and cutlery) in her room.

She works the nightshift and is currently fast asleep and won’t be awake until about 6. My friends are coming at 5.

How do I retrieve the plates? Do I knock and wake her up or sneak in?

That first sentence should say not really an aibu.. autocorrect has gotten the best of me.

I’d just ask one of your friends to bring some.

HolidayYouWhat · 18/08/2019 15:42

Text one of your friends and ask if they can bring a couple of plates? I would never mind receiving a text like that...

ThrowAwayQP · 18/08/2019 15:42

As an alternative I am considering running to the shops before they close and buying a pack of paper plates; but I’ve got the meat in the oven and it don’t like leaving it

You can't get them out of her room unless she wakes up.

Borrow a couple from your neighbours.

CrispSandwiches19 · 18/08/2019 15:45

Ask a neighbour? Get someone to bring a few plates. Don't wake somone on a night shift. But maybe say when u see them to. Bring them Down regularly to avoid any further issues

ThrowAwayQP · 18/08/2019 15:45

I didn’t even think to text my friends. Will do that now.

@CrispSandwiches19 I asked them about the plates a few days ago, only just realised she didn’t get the hint!

Off topic I know but why don't you like leaving meat in the oven?

HJWT · 18/08/2019 16:00

Id wake her up then if you asked a couple of days ago 🤦🏻‍♀️

walkintheparc · 18/08/2019 16:00

Don't give them paper plates! Ask your guests! Mine bring their own chairs sometimes depending on numbers haha

73Sunglasslover · 18/08/2019 21:18

I'd ask friends. Then I'd also make it clear to the lodger that you sometimes need all the plates and if she wants to every keep them in her room she will have to buy her own.

ShinyMe · 18/08/2019 21:21

Definitely don't buy paper plates! If your friends can't bring a few, then buy some cheap real plates - supermarkets have them really cheaply, and it sounds like an extra few would be useful anyway.

Brexitstash · 18/08/2019 21:25

Having done many night shift I'd be very pissed off if you woke me up, definitely text friends

BlueSkiesLies · 18/08/2019 21:28

Did your friends bring plates?

I’d jot be happy with lodger eating food in her bedroom and hoarding plates up there.
