Men on Instagram

I'm relatively new to insta but aibu to think men should not be treating it like a free online dating site? It's ridiculous. I don't put endless selfies in there. I'm not 23 and gorgeous. But I am getting a steady stream (OK maybe trickle) of message requests where you see their message, from men who are all "😚😚😚" and worse!

Wtf? Does this work for some? It's so tedious.

Put your account on private and don’t accept friend requests from people you don’t know. Problem solved.

Mumteedum · 18/08/2019 09:36

Yes @Witchinaditch that's probably sensible but I never had to do that before. I haven't accepted any friend requests from people I don't know anyway. I just didn't particularly see the need to make account private. I haven't had this on twitter!

I had the same OP joined a month ago then all these American men messaged me 'Hi how are you ' 'Hi where u from" wanted to follow me Etc Etc I deleted it all as too much was private from start have no idea how/ where they found me !

Instagram and Twitter is full of fake accounts pretending to be British or American men looking for love, but which are actually scammers, usually in Eastern Europe, who will eventually ask for money. So it might be that these are what you’re getting lots of comments or messages from. I get loads of them on Twitter, as do a lot of accounts who have a woman’s face as the profile pic.

You can block comments/messages from people you don’t follow, if you don’t want to make it private.

Flip side: I met someone from insta (we went to the same gym, I recognised him) & we dated for a while. I enjoyed it & if single, would certainly not be opposed to doing that again.

Since I made my account private, I've had loads of follow requests from random men (which I always decline). Never had any follow me when it was a public account and they could see the photos of my knitting, cats, cakes etc! Grin
