To wonder what is blocking radio and mobile signals in my house?

I’m with EE. For the last 6-8 weeks I’m having issues with mobile reception inside my house. It’s a bit better on the drive and in the garden, but not brilliant. I never had these issues in the 10yrs we’ve been in this house. Today I noticed my car radio going zzzz when I pulled into my drive. Is there something in my neighbourhood (or my house) that’s causing radio/mobile reception issues???
If you had similar issues and found a solution, please please share it. I’m going mad here :(

Where are you? And what do EE say?

BarbarAnna · 17/08/2019 22:13

Have you switched on WiFi calling? This will sort your reception in the house assuming you have WiFi.

WeeDangerousSpike · 17/08/2019 22:19

I was going to ask if you have insulation that has foil in it. But you would probably have noticed that being installed in the last 6 weeks.

I couldn't get signal in my digs at college, I put it down to the fuck off great pylon next door. Again, not something that's hard to notice.

Sorry, no help at all.

Katelyn88 · 17/08/2019 22:26

No new insulation. What’s WiFi calling and how do I switch it on? EE say there are no signal issues in the area! My phone shows 2 (TWO) bars signal strength !!!

Think about anything thats electrical that you (or neighbours) purchased in the same time frame .a lot of things could produce interference but you’ll just have to try and narrow it down by switching things on and off until the problem goes away. Old microwaves can also be a source

skykiln · 17/08/2019 23:00

I am also on EE, probably no where near you but have also found for the past couple of months that signal strength has been terrible in my house. Struggle to make or receive a call. No idea why!!

JoanieCash · 17/08/2019 23:04

Are you near a prison? I use to work near one and they must have had jammers or something as it was a mobile dead zone

DontCallMeShitley · 17/08/2019 23:24

Maybe someone is using a drone blocker nearby.

ZenNudist · 17/08/2019 23:29

We are having this problem. Dh is using a signal testing app. It literally shows the signal drop as you walk through the door.

Also with ee.

My friend at work is having problems with her ee phone.

Ive been with ee/Orange for 20 years and never had this many problems.

SuperSaturdaySteve · 17/08/2019 23:41

Same, also with EE, thinking of switching despite them bring brilliant for years. Signal about two months ago suddenly became non-existent indoors.

PersonaNonGarter · 17/08/2019 23:43

I’m also on EE - it’s got so bad . About the time they decided to put on ‘5G’ for some places

AwdBovril · 17/08/2019 23:46

I was going to suggest solar panels - not necessarily just on your roof. And then I read ChipOffTheOldCock's post & snorted my cocoa up my nose by accident.

Katelyn88 · 18/08/2019 07:21

It must be EE then! Did anyone manage to get an answer from EE? I spoke to them and they basically asked me to try silly things like restarting my phone, changing carrier (and changing it back to EE) etc. Obviously nothing changed

Also EE fine everywhere else but not in area of city I work. Before the summer hols (not in Eng so we have gone back now) my phone worked perfectly in school esp my office used it a lot for making phone calls last day of term no issue.

Now month and a half later in that school my phone doesn't have 4g it has nothing or H which is apparently v v slow data.

And when I make and receive calls they are buzzy and crackle. But not when I am at home. Not just in the school.but surrounding streets/local shopping arcade etc that I visit every weekday for years and no signal.probs

So no help sorry as we only went back last week and noticed it. So assumed a one off but maybe not?

IWouldPreferNotTo · 18/08/2019 07:36

If it's affecting your car radio which is on a very different frequency to your phone id be thinking it's a poorly shielded electric motor thats arcing. Are your neighbours affected

ZandathePanda · 18/08/2019 08:12

We had this when an EE mast was changed from 3G to 4G nearby. They gave us compensation.

LakieLady · 18/08/2019 08:22

Bloody hell, you've just solved the mystery of why the mobile signal at the back of my house is so bad!

When mobiles first came out, the signal was fine on some networks, iffy on others. Then, a few years ago, it was down to 1 or 2 bars in the kitchen and fine anywhere else, on any network.

We're about half a mile from a prison, as the crow flies, and the back of the house is nearer than the front. I'm surprised the dead zone affects us, as there's a bloody big hill between us and the prison.
