In not thinking that this is offensive?

Just wondering...

In regards to kids, little munchkin, little fart, little squidger.. are any of these terms offensive? Somebody has just said it's not 'appropriate' to call anybody's baby a little fart.. but it's not like I said little brat? Or little shit? 😂
I would have thought little fart like munchkin is more of a cutesy term? AIBU???

Yes that sounds about right Grin

Juells · 16/08/2019 19:18

That is the name you would called somebody who is 'jumped up and officious'?! A little fart? Do they laugh at you when you call them that? I would..

That's the only way I've ever heard it used, when someone is throwing their weight around and making someone else jump through hoops, the someone jumping through hoops will rant to their friends about the stupid little fart.

CloserIAm2Fine · 16/08/2019 19:18

Your own kids or kids your very close to then fine, it’s obviously affectionate or a family joke

Random kids? No. Nobody wants you to call their little darling a fart!

custardlover · 16/08/2019 19:18

"@custardlover are you sure you are?
I think it has a lot to do with it!!! We are less formal with language, for the most part and as another poster stated, language is used differently everywhere.
For example, when I was in Kansas I was told that Americans much prefer the term 'oh my gosh' rather than 'oh my god' as a lot are fiercely religious and it's seen as offensive. Where here in Ireland, not so much."

Umm yes, I'm quite sure. Plus 'oh my god' is pretty frowned on in my family too; my children say 'oh my gosh'. I was brought up believing that 'Jesus Christ!' was the most offensive expletive that you could use and blasphemy was very looked down on. So again, it's not an 'Irish' thing, it's a 'your circles' thing. So fine as part of your lexicon and with your friends but you asked if other would find it offensive when used about our children and yes, I would. And my (very Irish) mother would be utterly disgusted.

yesIhaveanopinion93 · 16/08/2019 19:19

@feistymumma it wouldn't be used in so many words...

More like 'ahh aren't you cute ya little fart'.. always used to refer to cuteness or them being small.. and cute. never ever used to offend a parent or their child

PMSL at some of the reactions and pearl clutching on here.

@yesIhaveanopinion93 I wouldn't personally call someone's baby a 'little fart,' but I wouldn't say it's vile, offensive, and vulgar; it just sounds a bit weird, and not something I would call someone's wee bairn, but offensive? No.

As a couple of other posters have said, some people just LOVE to show faux outrage on here, and make something out of verrrrry little. Hmm

And asking if the OP is 'working class.' PMSL!!! WTF? Shock

There have been some rude comments aimed at the OP here.... And some people have the nerve to say the OP is offensive and rude.

Words fail me. Confused

SomewhereInbetween1 · 16/08/2019 19:20

I'm English and I wouldn't find little fart offensive at all!

yesIhaveanopinion93 · 16/08/2019 19:21

@custardlover okay I'm not gonna give you the argument you're so clearly looking for. You're hugely offended by a lot me thinks. Glad I'm not in 'your circles' as I would have to wash out my mouth a lot I'd say.

Oh and BTW, 'don't say the lords name in vain' was commonly used around me by a much older and more religious generation. These days not so much.

OP posts:
MonstranceClock · 16/08/2019 19:22

I didn't mean that to be rude to ask? I am apparently also working class. The people I grew up around would all use language like that and usually much worse with kids.

Topseyt · 16/08/2019 19:22

I called my own little farts (and other things) when they were babies.

I wouldn't have applied the terms to anyone else's babies as that would have been too presumptuous and is their prerogative.

DH and I call each other Old Fart, or just Cart, all the time.

yesIhaveanopinion93 · 16/08/2019 19:22

@zeezee3 I can tell you're definitely the sort of person I'd like to have in my 'circles' whatever they may be! I have opened a massive can of worms it seems.

OP posts:
Topseyt · 16/08/2019 19:23

Fart, not Cart. That was autocorrect.

Nanny0gg · 16/08/2019 19:23

For example, when I was in Kansas I was told that Americans much prefer the term 'oh my gosh' rather than 'oh my god' as a lot are fiercely religious and it's seen as offensive. Where here in Ireland, not so much.

A lot of English people don't like it either.

Waveysnail · 16/08/2019 19:23

I call mine stinky bums. Started as babies and they think it's hilarious now they are in primary

tabbycat985 · 16/08/2019 19:24

I wouldn't be offended by this at all but I'm also Irish & little Stinkbutt is a term of endearment in my house for both babies & DHGrin

HeadintheiClouds · 16/08/2019 19:24

Do you mean when you’re talking directly to the baby? I can’t imagine any conversation going - “Aw, is this is the new baby! How lovely, he looks a right little fart” 🤪
Or even directly - “Look at you, little fella! Aren’t you an absolute little fart?” 😂
Of course it’s offensive!
Is it a family thing only, op? It really isn’t mainstream.

SilverySurfer · 16/08/2019 19:25

Calling someone an old fart is never a term of endearment, it's rude so I don't see little fart being any different.

You can, of course, call your own sprog whatever you want.

zeezee3 · 16/08/2019 19:25

@yesIhaveanopinion93

YEP! We can hang round in our little vulgar, working-class-trash circles, making fart noises with our armpits, and guzzling coke to see who can burp the loudest. Grin

yesIhaveanopinion93 · 16/08/2019 19:26

@MonstranceClock I wasn't offended by your question, don't worry 😉 I have no problem in defining my official place in society, I'm actually more than proud to say I'm not one of those 'jumped up, officious' people that gets easily offended. I think it'll be a veeeeeeery long road for some posters here if they choose to get this offended by something I have clearly stated as not being used to offend. Fart. What an awful awful word. I think we all choose how to take words... and we definitely choose how offended we are by them just for the sake of a moan!

OP posts:
custardlover · 16/08/2019 19:27

Hey- peace - I'm not trying for a fight. You asked, I answered from my perspective. I wouldn't want it to be thought of as a normal Irish thing to use these terms for children as that is not my experience so that's why I'm saying it's not an Irish thing, it's a 'specific to your experience' thing - better?

marvellousnightforamooncup · 16/08/2019 19:28

YABU, fart doesn't roll off the tongue as well as little jobby or wee shite.

zeezee3 · 16/08/2019 19:29

@MonstranceClock

I read your username as 'monster cock.' Blush

Send help. Confused

yesIhaveanopinion93 · 16/08/2019 19:29

To be honest I think a lot of you are choosing to be grossly offended by this term. There are a few that have been nice enough to genuinely say 'not a term for me but wouldn't find it horribly offensive'.

I wasn't looking for anyone to change my feelings on it just merely looking for opinions.
But @zeezee3 you are definitely right, how hypocritical is it of some on here sending offensive comments to me about something they find offensive 😂 some of the comments are far worse than the term 'little fart' 😂

OP posts:
Stampy84 · 16/08/2019 19:31

Ha! I call my baby a little maggot!

yesIhaveanopinion93 · 16/08/2019 19:31

@custardlover much better 😂 I absolutely was in no way expecting everyone to agree but just found some of the responses quite shockingly ironic.

It's funny how people question ones character over the Internet over a slightly trivial term. I'm not sorry I asked though, it's good to get others opinions!
